    POSITION SUMMARY: WE HAVE AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN OUR TEAM AS A SENIOR EEG TECH. 

    Performs routine, ambulatory, and long-term EEG studies in inpatient and outpatient settings, across all ages from neonatal to adult. Maintains integrity of EEG recordings to a high standard. Connects, maintains and troubleshoots surgical intracranial studies. Demonstrates advanced understanding of EEG theory and practice and is able to base independent decisions on this knowledge base. Provides timely and compassionate patient-centered care. Can be relied upon to accept tasks, work independently, and as part of a large team.

     

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Participates regularly in continuing education activities.
    •  Attends conferences/weekly review as required.
    •  Demonstrates knowledge of the hospital and applicable vendor systems as they relate to the EEG Laboratory. Demonstrates ability to access patient information such as appointment times, type of exam, and patient reports, for both out-patients and in-patients.
    • Detects equipment malfunctions, makes minor maintenance adjustments, and follows departmental guidelines for troubleshooting equipment and alerts the EEG Lab Supervisor and/or Lead EEG Technologist when unable to resolve issue at hand. Optimizes networking and software performance in conjunction with EEG Lab Supervisor, Lead EEG Technologist, and/or physicians.
    •  Performs cleaning of required equipment. Cleans and prepares equipment daily prior to using on patients.
    •  Accurately assigns individual EEG number to patient avoiding duplication of numbers. Maintains VEEG archive and report database. Retrieves, copies, and prints data as requested. Appropriately archives and burns data onto CDs or server, and double checks integrity before deleting data from hard-drive/server. Follows departmental guidelines for documentation of patient data (e.g., name, date, EEG number, date of events, when applicable, etc.) into appropriate log books and onto CDs. Is familiar with filing of CDs, videos, and recordings.
    •  Documents all patient related data according to departmental procedure. Utilizes patient chart in obtaining pertinent history as necessary and obtains additional information by questioning the patient/parent, if minor.
    •  Reviews files for seizure activity and marks appropriate sections for physician review. Completes prior to 10AM. Notifies physician of findings requiring immediate review.
    • Prepares descriptive report of test procedure and results for physician information and subsequent interpretation.
    • Performs advanced interpretation of EEG recordings, with the ability to recognize pathological patterns including seizures in adult and pediatric patients.
    •  Assists in the performance of intraoperative corticography procedures. Ensures that necessary equipment is present and set-up appropriately in the operating rooms. Provides additional assistance as necessary.
    • Properly hooks up continuous VEEG monitoring patients utilizing appropriate montages.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of continuous EEG monitoring including intra-operative monitoring such as corticography. Knows and understands intra-operative monitoring including corticography, and hooks up patients with surgically implanted subdural electrodes, utilizing appropriate montages.
    • Hooks up surgical grid patients utilizing appropriate montages.
    • Demonstrates a detailed knowledge of EEG monitoring. Demonstrates a detailed knowledge of the broad range of epilepsy symptoms and pathologies. Performs, assesses and critiques the patient's EEG deciding what is necessary for a complete diagnostic study. Alerts the appropriate medical staff of abnormalities that require immediate attention. Is prepared to assist the neurologist in the event of a patient seizure. Informs physician of any changes in patient's condition.
    • Modifies standard recording techniques as required by special problems and unanticipated circumstances.
    • Upon completion of test, removes electrodes and gel, cleans patients head, and wipes down equipment. Carries out assignment within a realistic time frame.
    • Obtains standard recordings, recognizes artifacts, and takes appropriate steps to eliminate them. Appropriately uses activating procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation, and sleep. Monitors other variables during EEG such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electro-oculograms, respiration when necessary.
    • Maintains VEEG recording daily, including restarting and transferring studies daily, periodic checks of electrode impedance and monitoring of scalp sites for skin breakdown.
    • Prepares patient for testing and administers routine EEG with a high degree of technical competency, independently. Performs continuous video EEG (VEEG) monitoring independently using scalp electrode placements with appropriate documentation. Measures head appropriately, places electrodes properly, and checks their integrity. Prepares patients using proper departmental criteria and techniques to ensure quality of recordings.
    • Provides for patient comfort and arranges equipment for procedures. Must be able to work well with babies, children, adolescents, and adults, including parents and caregivers. Prepares equipment and supplies according to established departmental procedures. Interacts with patients by identifying self to patient. Verifies the identity of the patient by checking the patient ID bracelet or through verbal acknowledgement by patient. Explains the procedures and equipment to the patient clearly. Answers inquiries and reassures patient during test in order to obtain the patients cooperation for the best performance of the test. Provides for patient privacy at all times.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify you must have a R.EEG.T registration from ABRET is required. High School Diploma or equivalent, Three years of video EEG experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Additional certifications from ABRET in CLTM monitoring is advantageous. Certified in BCLS. REQUIRED LICENSES: American Society Electroneur Tec-ASET
