    POSITION SUMMARY: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director-Anatomic Pathology Operations. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing all technical aspects of the day-to-day operations for the Anatomic Pathology laboratories at Tisch Hospital, ACC, LOH, Perlmutter Cancer Center, and NYUL Brooklyn (as it relates to Tisch technical processing). Specific laboratory areas include: Accessioning, Gross Pathology, Histopathology/Immunohistochemistry, Renal Pathology, Cytology, Hematopathology, and Cytogenetics. This includes workflow assessment, Quality Assurance, regulatory compliance, procedure development, validation oversight, personnel management, and financial and contract management.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Directly supervises management and supervisory staff including but not limited to expected outcomes and goals, assigning responsibilities, establishing work hours and staffing schedules, monitoring staffing and payroll.
    • Participation in standardization of pathology operations within the NYUL Hospitals Center network as it relates to laboratory operations at Tisch and ACC. In conjunction with Senior Administrative Director, partners with Pathology laboratory management at non-Tisch locations (Brooklyn, LOH, CCC, Winthrop) to ensure procedures and processes are standardized and effectively managed as it relates to Tisch/ACC pathology laboratory operations.
    • Quality Systems and Regulatory Compliance. Collaborates with Sr. Administrative Director, Director of Quality systems and Compliance, and medical directors within the department to implement quality system practices within each laboratory. Works with supervisory staff to ensure regulatory compliance is monitored and maintained in all laboratory areas.
    • Equipment Procurement and Contract Management. Effectively interacts with vendors, business managers, and senior leadership to secure favorable contracts. Works with laboratory management and supervisors to ensure maintenance and performance of laboratory equipment. Management of equipment for all Tisch and ACC laboratories and develops a continual capital plan for all labs.
    • Planning and Budgeting: Participates in cost control and fiscal planning to ensure that the most effective method of delivering quality services is implemented. Maintains awareness of the cost impact of decisions and actions in the laboratory areas. Monitors established practices and their impact on lab expenditures, identifies areas of excessive cost. Works with senior leadership to develop strategic financial plans as it relates to laboratory growth. Provides senior leadership with cost information necessary for preparation of budgets.
    • Operations Management: Ensures that all AP laboratory operating procedures and policies are developed, maintained, and enforced. This includes quality control standards and practices such as daily QC and validation procedures. Ensure that testing systems developed and used for each of the tests performed in the laboratory provide quality laboratory services for all aspects of test performance, which includes the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing. Ensure that the test methodologies selected have the capability of providing the quality of results required for patient care; meet accuracy standards; and lab personnel are using test methods for accurate and reliable results. Ensure the establishment and maintenance of acceptable levels of analytical performance for each test system. Oversees validation plans for the AP laboratories. Conducts workflow and volume assessments. Works with supervisors to implement new workflows required to ensure efficient and high quality services. Oversees material management as it relates to laboratory operations.
    • Development, Evaluation, Counseling and Personnel related activities: Direct supervision of management, supervisory, and line staff in the main Pathology laboratory areas located at Tisch Hospital and ACC. Interviews perspective employees, evaluates and documents staff performance and performs personnel counseling. Recognizes and identifies staff needs and develops programs to meet needs. Oversees orientation and training of new staff. Establishes ongoing training and competency training for all staff.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in management, business, public health, laboratory sciences or a related field.
    • Minimum of 5 years in a clinical laboratory with management responsibilities.
    • Must be knowledgeable in all areas of Anatomic Pathology.
    • NYS Clinical Laboratory Licensure.
    • Effective oral, written, and communication skills.

    PREFERRED LICENSES: Clinical Lab Technologist-NYS

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Masters Degree in management, business, public health, laboratory sciences or a related field. 5-7 years' experience in a clinical laboratory setting with management responsibilities. Previous experience in Histology and Immunohistochemistry. ASCP Certification. Knowledge of Epic Beaker application.

    NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $106,229.95 - $177,049.92 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
