    POSITION SUMMARY: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Faculty Group Practice Rad Tech-Multi Modality PART-TIME / Rego Park. In this role, the successful candidate Under the general direction of the Radiologist, the incumbent is responsible for performing medically prescribed radiographic procedures across multiple modalities. This may include x-ray, mammography, bone density, nuclear medicine and/or CT procedures, depending on the needs of the position, and the verified clinical competency and credentials of the incumbent.

     

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Demonstrates knowledge of the hospital and radiology information systems as they relate to radiology. Correctly chooses appropriate patient information from HIS/RIS system in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Demonstrates ability to access patient information such as appointment times, type of exam, and patient reports. Maintains confidentiality on matters to which they are privileged. Is knowledgeable of the total cycle of RIS patient tracking. Follows departmental policy of documenting begin, complete and departure times, when appropriate, in the RIS. Has working knowledge of film library functions. Demonstrates knowledge of the HIS and is able to access patient data for verification of orders. Competent in scheduling exams in RIS from the order entry queue and/or demonstrates the ability to modify exams when necessary.data for verification of orders.     • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Demonstrates skill in equipment set-up, utilization and proper maintenance procedure. Is familiar with the separate programs and variables for each machine in order to operate it properly. Utilizes computer skills and techniques to correct software errors that may cause computer malfunctions. Performs various test procedures to evaluate operation of equipment, including visual and manual quality control checks of radiographic equipment. Uses imaging and peripheral equipment, in a safe and productive manner in accordance with prescribed hospital, departmental and manufacturer's procedures. Observes and reports any malfunctioning of the equipment and notifies appropriate persons in case of missing or damaged equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of proper use of computer product printers, i.e. label printers, report printers, etc.
    • Performs transmission and/or segmentation for transmission to PACS in a complete and proper anatomic display. Generates high quality hard copies of images when necessary. Uses efficient methods and completes examinations assigned in reasonable amount of time. Maintains cleanliness of radiographic area. Prepares equipment and supplies in advance for future exams, restocks supplies as needed and notifies supervisor of any shortage. Makes alterations in work schedule for STAT and emergency cases. Is able to alter work patterns to satisfy the needs of the patient and medical staff. Is able to recognize a medical emergency and notifies nurse, PA and/or MD immediately. Demonstrates knowledge of proper radiation safety procedures and incorporates them into the performance of all radiographic procedures. Uses gonadal shielding on all patients whenever possible. Restricts beam to the smallest possible area, ensuring the least possible exposure to the patient without compromising quality. Eliminates the possibility of accidental exposures to x-ray by all persons. Maintains radiation detection badges and rings appropriately and returns them as required.
    • May perform CT procedures, if clinical competency and certification has been verified. Demonstrates knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy to include solid understanding of 'slices' and the relationship between the images produced and the parts of the body. Is able to determine, when he/she has taken enough 'slices' to complete the procedure. Is able to recognize pathology or abnormalities in images produced from the CT scan (i.e. ' tumors, masses, and lesions) in their cross-sectional aspects. Images this area above and below the mass; measures the abnormality as determined by protocol. Solves problems that arise during patient examinations using both technical knowledge and innovation.
    • Independently implements patient procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Explains the procedure and equipment to the patient clearly. Answers patient questions to ensure understanding and patient satisfaction. Provides for patient comfort before, during and after procedure, and maintains an ongoing rapport with the patient throughout the procedure to ease any anxiety the patient may have. Provides for patient privacy at all times. Positions patient and radiographic equipment appropriate to the body part(s) to be radiographed and adjusts equipment settings accordingly to insure maximum information is obtained. Follows accepted radiologic procedures. Uses lead markers appropriately. Ensures that all images completed are of high quality. Uses positioning and immobilizing devices to improve radiographic quality. Considers variety of protocols and rationale in determining radiographic positioning and technique. Alters examination to maximize information in response to patient's condition. Follows special instructions indicated on radiographic requisition.
    • Effectively assesses patient's information and status, and follows appropriate procedure(s) accordingly. Uses standard procedures to identify the correct patient using two identifiers (full name and birth date). Checks patient's wristband by name to ensure patient's ID matches examination requisition. Calls patient by last name, asking patient to confirm their identity by stating their first name. Introduces self to the patient. Reviews patient's requisition and understands the type of exam required by each requisition and confers with medical staff regarding clarification when necessary. Seeks information or asks for assistance from supervisor regarding difficult or questionable results. Follows accepted radiologic procedures and uses medical information to determine type of protocol required for radiographic examination. Consults policy and procedure manuals and/or other reference materials as necessary to ensure actions conform to established protocols. Follows special instructions indicated on radiographic requisition. Recognizes need for and follows isolation precautions.conform to established protocols.     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify you must have a Minimum Qualifications: Education: Certificate from accredited School of Radiologic Technology (must have completed a Nuclear Medicine Technology Certificate or degree from a Nuclear Medicine Accredited Program, if practicing Nuclear Medicine). License: New York State license or temporary permit to practice Diagnostic Radiology. If required to practice Nuclear Medicine, must have current NYS License to practice Nuclear Medicine.Certification: Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Advanced Certification: Advanced certification is required for all advanced modalities performed (Computerized Tomography, Mammography, and Nuclear Medicine). A minimum of two advanced certifications are required for the role..

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: College Degree with two (2) years of experience in each required modality.

    NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $25.70 - $42.83 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
