Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Genetic Counseling Assistant - Obs/Gyn-IVF.
In this role, the successful candidate will serve as an assistant to the genetic counselors for the NYU Langone Fertility Center and reports to the Director of Reproductive Genetics. The Genetic Counseling Assistant is responsible for reviewing genetic records, assisting various teams with completing patient genetic test orders, and tracking pending genetic tests, as well as other related duties. In addition to genetic counselors and patients, the GCA will communicate with nurses, medical assistants, physicians, and laboratories.
Job Responsibilities:

* Manage genetic counselors’ schedule, including scheduling of patient appointments and coordinating referrals
* Assist with gathering and reviewing medical records and genetic test reports for patients and gamete donors
* Assign patient consent forms
* Assist with prior authorizations for genetic testing
* Track status of pending genetic tests, consent forms, and insurance authorizations
* Communicate genetic test results and clinical instructions to patients
* Scan/upload genetic reports and other medical records
* Explain clinic’s current genetic testing protocols to patients and staff
* Assist with data collection for research projects
* Other duties as assigned
* * **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** :
* Demonstrated interest in medical genetics, genetic counseling, and/or reproductive medicine
* Strong computer skills, including email and spreadsheets
* Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills
* Exceptional organization and multi-tasking skills
* Strong attention to detail
* Highly self-motivated and independent, with a strong work ethic

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination of educational and clinical experience Excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills. Basic math and computer skills, knowledge of medical terminology
Experience with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and PC computers required
Familiarity with basic medical terminology, electronic health records, test requisitions
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in genetics or biological sciences Experience in medical facility, currently in or Familiarity with medical terminology, reviewing medical records, test requisitions, pathology reports Experience in genetics related field
Research experience/basic science Experience with Microsoft Office products required (Access, Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook) Experience with utilization of electronic health records Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in order to enhance the patient experience Must also possess strong organization and multi-tasking skills Highly self-motivated and attentive to detail

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $41,977.18 - $57,770.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
