    The NYU Rodent Genetic Engineering Laboratory (RGEL) is a fee-for-service laboratory operated by the NYU Langone Health as a state-of-the-art shared resource for biomedical researchers. The Research Scientist (microinjectionist) will report to the Director of the RGEL and will work within the scientific framework of the Core to serve its goals and in collaboration with principal investigators employing the core.

    **Position Summary:
    **Responsible for collaborating with Principal Investigators (PI) and working independently within the scientific framework of the PI's laboratory.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Conducts routine and standardized experiments using advanced research techniques specific to subject matter of the research project

    • Microinjection of plasmid-based transgenes, bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs) and CRISPR reagents into the pronucleus or cytoplasm of one-cell mouse zygotes to create novel transgenic or gene-edited mouse lines

    • Microinjection of gene-targeted mouse ES cells to produce mouse chimeras for the establishment of novel mouse lines

    • Conducts embryo transfer surgeries to return injected one- or two-cell embryos, or blastocysts to the reproductive tract of host female mice

    • Will also be proficient in the performance of vasectomies of male mice

    • Cryopreservation and recovery of mouse sperm and/or embryos

    • IVF re-derivation of novel mouse lines imported into NYU animal facilities, in cooperation with the Center for Comparative Medicine (DCM) and Surgery

    • Animal husbandry necessary for the performance of other duties listed above, such as routine monitoring of mice and changing of cages with pregnant and lactating mice, hormone injections to superovulate donor female mice, hormone preparations, maintenance of specific equipment used in the Core

    • Occasional weekend (Saturday) work will be required

    • All duties listed above to be performed in as independent a manner as possible, with minimal supervision of the Director of the core.

    • Serve as a role model confronting racist, sexist, or other inappropriate actions by speaking up, challenging exclusionary organizational practices, and standing side-by-side in support of colleagues who experience discrimination

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    MS degree and 2-4 years of experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Ph.D or Master of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with 2-4 years of experience. Substantial experience from having completed Post Doc training. Established record of publications.
    • At least four years of experience in the generation of genetically engineered mice:
    • Pronuclear and cytoplasmic injections of one-cell mouse zygotes, ES cell injections into mouse blastocysts, and in the cryopreservation (and recovery) of mouse gametes and sperm.

    NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $52,650.00 - $76,220.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
