THE PROGRAM BEGINS ON TUESDAY JUNE 6, 2023 AND REQUIRES FULL TIME WORK THROUGH AUGUST 5, 2023. While candidates will be able to give their preferences for areas of interest, hires will be made based on unit needs. Two clinical references will be needed after an offer is extended. POSITION SUMMARY: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a 2023 Summer Student Nurse Extern, NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital. In this role, the successful candidate Performs patient care procedures and related activities within the framework of the written care plan and assignment by the professional registered nurse. Works closely with the professional nurse to determine patient needs, implements care activities, and reports patient/family responses. Carries out patient assignments under the direct supervision of the registered nurse, with a comprehensive approach to achieve specific outcomes. Reports to the RN specific functions completed. Observes the RN in the performance of professional nursing care.Under the direction of a registered professional nurse, the student nurse extern provides nursing care and services to patients. Duties and responsibilities are limited to those that fall under the scope of practice of unlicensed health care providers. Under the stipulations of the Nurse Practice Act, the student nurse extern SHALL NOT perform any of the following activities: Administer any medications or controlled substances (oral, IV, IM, rectal or subcutaneous), or administer chemotherapy. Initiate any blood or blood products, Take verbal or telephone orders from physicians, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants, Assume the role of the primary nurse in giving patient care, Assess, evaluate, or problem solve patient/family care needs, Develop the nursing care plan, Perform sterile or invasive procedures or techniques, Insert urinary catheters, Deliver nasogastric or gastrostomy tube feedings, Administer oxygen, or Perform tracheal suctioning, tracheostomy care, or respiratory care.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $15.00 - $15.00 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
