    The Advanced Ocular Imaging Lab in the Department of Ophthalmology NYU Langone Health is looking for an outstanding lab supervisor. Our multidisciplinary lab is developing and testing state-of-the-art ocular imaging technologies to advance detection and monitoring of ocular diseases as well as understanding of disease mechanisms. The lab is primarily funded by the NIH and is guiding a wide range of trainees.

    The lab supervisor manages the day-to-day operations of the laboratory. The responsibilities of the position include overseeing staff and trainees in the lab, acquiring ophthalmic images from humans, animals and specimens, training trainees and technicians in a variety of laboratory procedures, establishing and enforcing standard operating procedures, maintaining equipment/supplies, and monitoring budget. The lab supervisor assembles periodical reports for the lab, communicates with institutional and external investigators, and prepares manuscripts for professional journals and books as well as presentations for conferences. The supervisor should possess good interpersonal skills.


    • Manage day to day operations of the research laboratory. Will include budgeting and spending oversight, cost analyses of research projects, insuring operation of essential equipment, and maintenance of adequate supplies.
    • Work with the financial analyst to define the lab budget, identify accounts for ordering and work with lab staff to keep the lab spending with budgetary constrains.
    • Act as liaison between lab and NYU departments on issues such as budget management, fixed asset inventory, regulatory compliance and purchasing.
    • Will lead effort, with members of the lab, organizing lab operations and overseeing standardization of lab procedures. will have authority over all lab personnel on matters of regulatory compliance.
    • Train students and technicians in a variety of laboratory procedures.
    • Ensure prompt ordering of equipment and supplies for the lab using a computer based ordering system and/or by communication with the central ordering department.
    • Assist in monitoring expenditures and tracking budgets for several accounts used by the lab.
    • Ensure prompt unpacking and organization of delivered equipment and supplies.
    • Help principal investigator in assigning responsibilities for individual instruments and for laboratory maintenance.
    • Manage lab safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
    • Will establish and enforce standard operating procedures for receiving materials into the lab and sending materials to other labs, including the material transfer agreement process when appropriate.
    • Attend national and local meetings and conferences to remain current on lab management strategies and tools.
    • Follows current literature and web postings regarding trends in areas of importance to lab operations.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify you must have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with one year of experience. Experience in clinical research, bioengineering, or digital imaging is preferred. Software development is helpful. Effective oral and written communication skills required.
