    POSITION SUMMARY: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Student Intern.

    The Office of Diversity Affairs (ODA) Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) is expanding our team by recruiting a part-time administrative graduate intern. The duration of the internship is from the start of the Spring 2023 semester until August 31st, 2023, with an option to extend until the end of the Fall 2023 semester based on performance. The intern will work 15 hours per week; not exceeding 20 hours per week. This is a hybrid position and will require some on-site responsibilities. Our administrative internship is designed to offer mentorship and practical experiences within academic administration through shadowing and working closely with the ODA director, STEP director, and program coordinator. This opportunity will allow the intern to build and hone skills related to scientific training, program management and development, marketing and recruitment, communications, and/or overall education administration. A position such as this would prime the incumbent for further positions in academic administration within higher education.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plan and manage the summer senior technology and research training program (sSTART) while reporting to STEP director and program coordinator 

    • Coordinate and supervise virtual/in-person college tours 

    • Manage and collect all alumni data and build alumni engagement 

    • Collaborate on the maintenance of the Program Database and collect demographic data from students, including program registration forms, satisfaction surveys, etc. 

    • Coordinate with STEP/ODA program coordinator and NYULH communications to maintain social media platforms, including LinkedIn, blog, TikTok and Instagram 

    • Collaborate with other team members in the planning and development of special events and activities 

    • Develop and facilitate workshops for students including the development of curricula and active learning scenarios 

    • Assist with and lead course coordination for the academic year 

    • Write recommendation letters for students enrolled and with satisfactory progress in the program 

    • Provide input for program activities, budgets, and proposals 

    • Serve as a resource to parents and students 

    • Keep records of student and parent contacts (counseling and academic) and uphold confidentiality of student information 

    • Attend parent-related STEP meetings 

    • Assist in preparation of grant related reports for NYS Education Department   

    • Attend weekly staff meetings 

    • Other related duties, as assigned by the STEP Director and Program Coordinator

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify you must have a Bachelors degree and currently enrolled in a graduate program in education, STEM, or a related field. Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Effective oral, written, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and must work and communicate effectively with both internal and external customers. Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently. Time management skills and ability to work well under pressure. Ability to multi-task and manage projects. This is a hybrid, NY state grant funded-role. Candidates must reside in the New York City Metropolitan area. Please submit a resume and cover letter.     PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated dedication to equity, cultural responsiveness, and/or broadening participation of underrepresented groups in STEM education. Experience working with opportunity programs and/or underrepresented populations including, but not limited to low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented teens and young adults. Experience as a student in a STEP, CSTEP, or another opportunity/pathway program. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

    NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $15.00 - $44.59 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
