    POSITION SUMMARY:

    We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Health Educator.

    Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following: counseling, educating, scheduling, screening/implementing financial aid, record keeping, stocking and ensuring adequate patient follow up for the Family Planning service at Bellevue Hospital Center.

     

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Counseling Patients: o Provides options and supportive counseling and education services to all patients who identify themselves as desiring an elective termination of pregnancy (ETOP) o Assists with patient relaxation and counseling during first trimester abortion procedures o Provides counseling and education services to all patients referred from High Risk Clinic, the ultrasound unit and/or the genetic counselors o Provides counseling and education services to all patients referred from other services who want an ETOP.
    • Provides comprehensive contraception education to patients plus education on the large array of services available to patients at Bellevue Hospital
    • Scheduling: o Schedules all dilations and curettages, dilations and evacuations, and medical inductions o Schedules all ultrasounds and maintains results of all patients requiring ultrasounds because of previous uterine surgery o Schedules all pre-operative clearances and procedures as deemed necessary by the attending.
    • Pre-screens all patients for Medicaid eligibility
    • Obtains financial clearance for all patients prior to their procedures
    • Maintains patient log of all patients scheduled for procedures
    • Provides attending and resident staff with pre-operative information, facilitating the suction D&C on 15S, the placement of laminaria in clinic and the D&Es in the OR
    • Completes phone follow up for all patients who do not complete necessary requirements such as lab work, consents, etc. prior to their procedure
    • Completes phone follow up on patients post procedure

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    To qualify you must have a BA or BS with a major in the biological or social sciences or in education or similar program. Two years of experience in health education working in womens health with a public health or voluntary health agency or satisfactory equivalent of training, experience and education. Must be able to counsel patients on termination of pregnancy.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Masters in Public Health or equivalent is desirable but not required. Proficiency in Spanish a strong plus.
