    Our center invites applications for a Software Engineer position to work on the development of our open-source software tools and platforms for medical imaging research and healthcare data processing.

    The Software Engineer will join our interdisciplinary team of medical imaging researchers at NYU Langone Health. We are looking for a highly motivated person with expertise in both backend and frontend development, with strong passion for open-source development, and with excitement for working in a dynamic and unique research environment.

     

     

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Drive the development of our center’s software platforms for medical imaging (including our “Yarra Framework” and “mercure DICOM Orchestration Platform”)
    • Define the platforms’ development roadmaps to meet requirements of our researchers, clinical users, and external collaborators
    • Maintain the existing code repositories, create code documentation, and support external users and developers in online communities
    • Contribute to the development of in-house developed internal software tools
    • Provide technical guidance to faculty and lab staff on projects at the intersection of medical imaging research and information technology
    • Support various research projects in software implementation aspects, aiming to achieve rapid clinical translation of research prototypes
    • Create and maintain the required development infrastructure, testing environments, and continuous-integration pipelines
    • Build up in-house knowledge about modern development techniques and practices, and take initiative to implement these paradigms at the center

     

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent
    • Professional development experience in Python and C/C++
    • Experience in programming JavaScript and Ajax for frontend interfaces
    • Strong experience with Docker and orchestration tools, such as Kubernetes or Nomad
    • Experience in designing REST APIs and web backends using frameworks such as Flask, Django, Express.js, Starlette
    • Experience with relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL, and good knowledge of the SQL query language
    • Strong experience with version management tools (Git) and procedures
    • Good knowledge of HTML, REST, HTTP, TCP/IP, and authentication principles
    • Excellent knowledge of the Linux operating system (Ubuntu / Debian)
    • Proven track record in open-source development and visible involvement in the open-source community
    • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently

     

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience with the Qt library
    • Experience with Go and Node.js
    • Experience with public cloud services (AWS / Azure / Google Cloud)
    • Experience with No-SQL databases, such as MongoDB and DynamoDB
    • Experience with frontend frameworks, such as Vue, React, or Angular
    • Technical understanding of the DICOM standard (file format and communication)
    • Prior exposure to or domain knowledge in medical imaging
