    POSITION SUMMARY:

     

    We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Research Technician. In this role, the successful candidate will work closely with supervisors to assist in the research work of a cancer biorepository, which includes consenting patients, biospecimen collection, associated data annotation and quality assurance.

     

     

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Perform basic lab duties under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision; perform routine technical tasks and help with the routine processing of clinical samples from research protocols
    • Assist in developing and implementing new procedures and protocols to support experiments; actively participate in developing, recommending, and implementing new approved procedures, or modifying existing protocols and procedures; maintain and update technical knowledge
    • Cooperate, communicate, and relate well to NYU Langone collaborators at all levels; listen carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answer questions, or obtain needed information; communicate ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner; maintain the confidentiality of all research information; possess effective oral and written communication skills
    • Demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making; recognize problems as they occur, and determine or recommend the appropriate solution through the application of appropriate policy and procedure; seek guidance as necessary for the performance of duties, ask appropriate questions when in doubt, and utilize reference sources and materials to endure accuracy; advise appropriate personnel of situations and problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention
    • Obtain clinical and demographic data and enter into database, and analyze and create reports from Biorepository database.
    • Coordinate biospecimen procurement including entry of sample data in a database (inventory management)
    • Obtain patient consent for Biorepository participation
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    This is an entry level trainee position with no experience necessary and a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

     

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    BA/BS in biological sciences or a related field, with an interest in medical sciences preferred. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with databases and large data sets will be an advantage.
