    Respiratory Therapist at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Trophy Club:

    • This position is responsible for performing the respiratory care needs for assigned patients.

    • The Respiratory Therapist shall assume responsibility for implementing and assessing the therapeutic needs of the patients.

    • The respiratory therapist is responsible for dispersing of respiratory interventions, also to outline the roles and responsibilities determined necessary and essential for the delivery of services and care to the patient population served by Baylor Scott & White Medical Center at Trophy Club.

    Required Skills

    Licensure/Certification ****

    • Registry-eligible CRT/RRT
    • Registered Respiratory Care Practitioner by Texas Department of Health
    • Current BLS and ACLS, must get PALS within 30 days of hire.

    Required Experience

    Specific Job Experience

    • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a critical care hospital as a Respiratory Therapist

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Demonstrates knowledge and skill level necessary to assess patients in an age-appropriate manner in the pediatric, adolescent, adult and/ or geriatric patient population.
      • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
    • Good organization habits.
    • Independent decision-making skills.
    • Able to prioritize and organize workload to meet needs of patients and unit.
    • Experience with Electronic Healthcare Records

    Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Implementing or performing professional services according to policies and procedures including but not limited to: meeting the patient’s respiratory needs, promoting the patient’s psychosocial needs, maintaining a clean and safe environment for the patient, providing opportunities for formal and informal teaching to patient and family member and providing discharge planning and documentation in the EHR.

    • Plans and organizes respiratory services including but not limited to: maintain accurate and meticulous records of all assigned respiratory care services, maintain competence in delivery respiratory care functions and duties, maintain a regular direct clinical presence, review charts daily of all assigned patients to confirm current physicians orders and to update care plans to ensure that assessments are done in a correct and timely manner, and be knowledgeable and able to complete competency testing in all phases of respiratory therapy.

    • Demonstrate effective and accurate verbal and written communication including but not limited to: ensure that current charting/assessments/care plans include therapeutic goals, objectives and response to therapy, ensure that therapy procedures are performed as ordered in a timely manner, communicate with charge therapists and/or co-workers regarding changes or concerns in current patient workload.

    • Comply with organizational policies and procedures, including but not limited to maintain current licensure/certification requirements, attend all mandatory in-services, and comply with attendance policy.

    • Delivers medication based upon continual assessment, safety, and evaluation of patient response.

    • Function as patient care technician, when necessary, at the discretion of and under the direction of nursing staff, supervisor and/or director. Tasks will include but are not limited to assisting patients in all phases of routine care, obtaining and documenting vital signs, collection of lab specimens, ambulating patients, responding to patient’s requests, passing dietary trays, accompanying patients as necessary.

    • Follows all documentation policies.

    Competencies and responsibilities with each position are a combination of hospital wide and department specific standards. The department specific standards include the competencies appropriate to the ages of the customer served. The employee’s competencies are evaluated on an on-going basis and formally documented at least annually as part of the performance appraisal process.
