    POSITION SUMMARY: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Plumber. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for assisting in the year-round operation, maintenance and repair of all plumbing related mechanical systems required for the continuous and uninterrupted operation of NYU Winthrop Hospital. This includes, but is not limited to domestic hot and cold water distribution and production, hot water heating, DWV piping, fire sprinkler, and any other equipment or systems which fall under the responsibility of the Engineering Department s Plumbing Shop. Duties may include performing routine maintenance tasks such as: clearing clogged drain lines, changing water filters, performing rounds, testing or repairs to fire sprinkler system and assisting in the repairs of equipment or systems and other forms of operational support. All individuals will be assessed on their abilities to properly perform those tasks as well as follow more general guidelines in the day-to-day performance of their duties as an employee of not only the Engineering Department but as an employee of NYU Winthrop Hospital.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Installs or replaces defective components in the plumbing system such as valves, pumps, faucets, gauges, sinks, toilets, showers, water heaters, etc.
    • Performs repairs to plumbing system correctly with attention to detail and no callbacks.
    • Performs repairs to the main plumbing distribution and DWV systems.
    • Demonstrates proficiency and skill in working with various varieties of plumbing equipment and materials.
    • Capable of operating drain cleaning tools and equipment to clear blockage in sinks toilets, drains and piping.
    • Performs Preventive Maintenance as assigned to plumbing and sprinkler equipment and systems.
    • Able to troubleshoot plumbing-related problems and issues and perform the necessary repairs or corrective measures.
    • Performs other duties as assigned

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify you must have a High School diploma or GED. Technical Diploma Appropriate Trade/Vocation School. 3 - 5 years Commercial plumbing, building maintenance or plant operations field, preferably Healthcare. Excellent communication skills (both oral & written), interpersonal and organization skills. Must demonstrate a working knowledge and skill in all phases of plumbing repair and maintenance. Must be able to read and follow technical documents, manuals, drawings, schematics, specifications and blueprints. Must be familiar with the proper operation and maintenance of power and hand tools. Must also be able to meet all of the demands of this position, with no physical impairments or impediments.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Current NYS Commercial Plumbers license.
