    POSITION SUMMARY: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Tumor Registrar - PD. In this role, the successful candidate responsible for cancer identification using all available case finding techniques; identifies all reportable cases; retrieves and compiles standard core information from the patients charts as well as all consult reports from Medical Oncology, Radiation Therapy and Pathology. Abstracts patient information from paper and electronic medical record systems; codes demographics and cancer information and treatment utilizing required manuals.


    • Performs other duties as assigned
    • Participates in weekly tumor board conferences and attends educational conferences. Attends tumor board conferences including thoracic and surgical conferences.
    • Functions as a liaison with ACoS, COC, ACS, NCI, SEER, and NYS DOH Cancer Registry. Routinely contacts regulatory agencies to ascertain information on any changes to staging, treatments, standards andor guidelines.
    • Reviews master index for cases to be included in cancer registry database, as well as patients admitted to hospital for follow up care andor treatment, according to standards and guidelines of regulatory agencies. Performs monthly reviews index utilizing knowledge of cancer sites, morphology, treatment and follows up.
    • Contacts physician offices and other registries either by telephone or letter to complete data on the first course of treatment for each patient with a diagnosis of cancer. Requests information from physician s offices and other registries to document any procedures performed following discharge from this institution and documenting in the registry abstract.
    • Reviews all consults from Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Pathology, according to standards and requirements set forth by regulatory agencies, according to standards and requirements of regulatory agencies.
    • Abstracts and codes daily according to standards and requirements set forth by regulatory agencies.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify you must have a High School or GED. Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification from the National Cancer Registrars Association. 1 - 2 years Tumor abstractor. Excellent communication (both written and oral), detail orientation, customer service, organization, and multitasking skills. Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's Degree in Health Sciences, Health Administration, PublicHealth, or related field. 1 - 2 years in a hospital environment. Knowledge of proper application of ICD-03, FORDS, AJCC staging, Collaborative staging, New York State Department ofHealth Cancer Registry Operations Manual according to Cancer Program Standards and regulatory agency standards. Knowledge of Cancer Registry software, preferably METRIQ.
