As a critical member of the organization, this individual will work with engineers, sales and marketing professionals, as well as customers, to develop and promote applications of Nanoverse Technologies optical metrology and inspection products. These products are sold globally within the semiconductor, flat panel, consumer electronics, automotive, and aerospace industries.
As a critical member of the organization, the Applications Engineer 1 will work with engineers, sales and marketing professionals, as well as customers, to develop and promote applications of optical metrology and inspection products. These products are sold globally within the semiconductor, flat panel, consumer electronics, automotive, and aerospace industries.
The Applications Engineer is responsible for application development with guidance and oversight from his/her manager, including system optimization, sample measurement, data analysis, report writing and presentation of results to senior technical staff and external customers. The Application Engineer will apply knowledge of sophisticated optical instrumentation and physics to solve complex measurement problems. The Applications Engineer will have, or acquire in the course of work, a technical understanding of our customer’s measurement problems and manufacturing processes. The Application Engineer will propose and implement solutions to technical problems and make technical presentations at an appropriate level. The Application Engineer will also report customer business decisions, market trends and new technical/commercial requirements to senior management.
A B.S. in Physics, Engineering, Physical Chemistry, or a related field is required. Knowledge of industrial metrology, surface inspection, and engineering statistics is desirable but not required for candidates that demonstrate sufficient background and drive. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Assignments call for approximately 10% domestic and international travel.
Expectations and Deliverables:
· Schedule weekly 1:1 meetings with his/her immediate supervisor.
· Write a weekly report, summarizing Hi/Lo activity deliverables achieved, and a 2-week forecast of deliverables ahead.
· Run instrument demonstrations for customers, summarizing the results in standard reports for review internally and presented to customers.
· Participate in engineering development activities by providing feedback on instrument performance and suggestions for improvement. He/she may be assigned development tasks based on experience, capability, and schedule availability.
· Create and maintain manuals for the instrumentation and software, enabling others to implement solutions.
· Train other individuals (customers or employees) and contribute to the development of training material as needed.
· Support sales and marketing activities including, but not limited to, customer visits, tradeshows, preparation of sales and marketing materials such as demo reports, applications notes, data analysis, etc.
· Maintain instrumentation to enable customer demonstrations. The individual will manage the equipment and be responsible for ensuring its proper use, maintenance, and that safety protocols are followed. Escalate and communicate any issues that may arise with his/her immediate supervisor and/or team at large, enlisting help as needed and as expeditiously as possible.
· Support installation and commissioning of equipment (internal and at customer locations) by providing applications support and assuming responsibility of quality control and operation of the instrumentation. Some of this support may require travel to a customer location.
· Support customer questions regarding use of solutions in the customer workflow. Track and communicate issues related to instrument operations (bugs) and performance back to senior management and work closely with sales to communicate updates to the customer as needed.
