    Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Finance Manager leads all day-to-day accounting operations, with functional responsibility for accounting, accounts payable, payroll, and grants administration. 

    The ideal candidate will be responsible for the production of financial reports, proper maintenance of accounting records, accurate processing of financial transactions, and administration of a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk. The Finance Manager will also enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), adhere to grants management standards, and receive flawless audits.

    PRINCIPAL OPPORTUNITIES

    Building on nearly seven years of experience, Narrative 4 is primed to dramatically increase its global growth. We plan to: accelerate our scale by increasing capacity for outreach to new participants, facilitators and schools in our regional hubs, expand our network of artists and increase their influence on our programs; design a secure, innovative digital platform that will enable virtual exchanges, empathy-into-action fundraising campaigns, and online training; and replicate our regional hubs where there is demand and potential for impact.  As such, the role of the Finance Manager is critical for supporting the rapid growth of the organization through effective management of its financial operations. The Finance Manager role has large potential for growth within the organization tied to the growth of the organization.  

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Finance Manager will:

    • Provide useful financial insights to help make better decisions about formulating and executing strategy, and collaborate with the COO to develop financial strategy
    • Prepare and analyze accurate monthly financial and management reports, including income statement, balance sheet, budget and variance, projections and forecast, and cash flow
    • Maintain control of the following areas: general ledger, accounts payable, expense reports, billing, and payroll
    • Ensure that all financial transactions are processed accurately, in a timely manner, and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
    • Perform month-end closing procedures, including overhead allocations, account reconciliations, and updating schedules
    • Assist in the management of grants reporting, compliance, and reconciliation
    • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
    • Develop, implement, and maintain processes and controls that are current best practices related to transaction processing
    • Assist in issuing timely, accurate, and complete financial statements for all levels, including Board of Directors, executive, and management
    • Assist the Board of Directors in organizing meetings and maintaining proper records
    • Prepare and assist with developing audit schedules for the annual audit and suggest improvements in processes to increase organizational effectiveness
    • Gather 990 and 990T information for the annual tax return and maintain state registration filings
    • Administer US-based payroll, partnering with Justworks payroll company to deliver payments
    • Perform additional administrative tasks as requested

     

    PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

    N4 seeks a Finance Manager with:

    • Strategic thinker who possesses solid business acumen and is able to organize and manage multiple priorities;
    • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to perform multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality;
    • Three or more years of finance and accounting experience, including finance, accounting, audit, and analysis (including gathering, evaluating, presenting, and reporting financial information to management and external stakeholders);
    • solid experience in coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and payroll
    • nonprofit experience, with experience with fund/grants accounting preferred;
    • proficiency with Intacct or similar accounting software and excellent Excel skills;
    • a belief that empathy and education are important and willingness to turn that into advocacy and passion for Narrative 4.

    Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related subject is required. CPA is preferred but not required.

    SALARY & BENEFITS

    Narrative 4 offers a highly competitive and comprehensive salary and benefit package. Base yearly salary starting at $65,000.

     

    LOCATION & TRAVEL

    The Finance Manager must be located within the Eastern Standard Time zone in order to communicate promptly with the CEO (based in New York) and COO (based in the United Kingdom). The position is likely to entail travel to New York City on occasion.
