    Nashville Zoo is seeking an upbeat, positive individual to assist in overseeing the summer day camp program forchildren ages 4 – 18. The summer camp coordinator would be responsible for providing support to camp counselors throughoutcamp programs and daily activities which focus on wildlife, conservation, and the environment. The summer camp coordinator willalso provide support for the camp manager with weekly camp administration duties.Applicants must be available May 4, 2020 through August 7, 2020. This is a Temporary Full-Time role

    Duties and Responsibilities:• Assist with camp administration, including responding to telephone and email inquiries, sending camp packets ahead ofregistered camp week and helping with those still registering• Distribute camp materials to participants including confirmations and evaluations• Assist the camp manager in support of summer camp counselors, and provide additional training when necessary• Oversee all aspects of summer camp, including lessons, crafts, games, etc., and instruct when needed• Coordinate and communicate activities with the Education Department and zoo staff• Inventory camp equipment, facilities and purchase supplies and materials needed for crafts and activities*Other duties as assigned *

    Skills:• Knowledge of basic teaching methods as well as non-traditional techniques for early childhood development• Ability to follow written & oral instructions• Must work well without direct supervision• Must have excellent time management skills• Must have a desire to work with children• Excellent communication and leadership skills and the ability to work well with others• Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel• Ability to respond to emergency situations calmly and follow protocols

    Education:• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age• High school diploma or GED equivalent required• Bachelor’s degree, or working towards, in Education, Biology, Zoology or other environmentally related major desired• Experience with teaching, or working in a summer camp setting is required• Staff management experience also desired

    Physical Requirements:• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds• Ability to work outdoors in temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit• Ability to walk zoo grounds for long periods of time, bend down and ambulate quickly

    Background Check:• Applicants for this position are required to submit to a criminal background check and pass a drug test.• All employees who will be handling animals will be required to show recent proof of a negative TB test.
