    Job Description- The Special Event Coordinator I coordinates Zoo’s public events and activities to drive attendance and generaterevenue, oversees the run of show, partners with other departments and outside production teams to support the educational,fundraising and attendance goals of the Zoo, and provides event planning assistance for Zoo’s family focused fundraisers.

    Basic Function & Responsibilities:• Develop, coordinate, budget and execution of Zoo’s family-focused events.• Work with various Zoo departments, Sponsors, or Partners to coordinate logistics for their planned programming and eventproduction.• Works with Director of Events to plan annual calendar, budget, and event expectations.• Inputs, maintains and communicates the needs of the Zoo’s annual calendar and reservation system• Maintains and communicates monthly event calendars and staffing needs to all staff and management• Works with Volunteer Coordinator to schedule and coordinate coverage for event programs.• Works with Event Operations Lead to analyze and prepare logistical needs for events including layout and run of show• Works with Event Operations staff to research and create event activities and props/sets including procurement of materials• Contributing events writer and consulting staff member for membership newsletters and website.• Provides program information/assistance to the public regarding Zoo’s upcoming events• Creates appropriate sponsorship benefit opportunities within event and ensure that sponsors receive contracted benefits andrecognition.• Solicit in-kind donations for events as needed to offset budgeted items.• Other duties as assigned and needed to attain cohesive team objectives

    Work Requirements and Qualifications:1. Educationa. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in a related field or four plus years’ experience in event management, preferablyin a non-profit environment.

    1. Knowledge, Skills, and Characteristicsa. Able work independently to manage multiple projects simultaneously.b. Excellent organizational, analytical and creative skills, results and detail-oriented.c. Must be flexible and adaptable, able to perform physically demanding work in a variety of conditions.d. Excellent interpersonal skills with clients, guests and staffe. Must represent the Zoo in a positive manner at all timesf. Able to take full initiative in starting and completing tasksg. Must be proficient in spreadsheet and document applications (Excel, Word, Outlook etc) including basic budgeting andaccounting procedures.h. Accurate and efficient, time management skills.i. Able and willing to work a non-standard work week, including nights and weekends and a flexible schedule with overtime asneeded.j. Excellent written and oral communication skills.k. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

    2. Physical Requirementsa. Ability to work outside in a variety of conditions, as needed.b. Ability to climb stairs and ladders.c. Ability to lift materials up to 50 pounds.d. Ability to bend and kneel.e. Ability to stand for up to 10 hours per dayf. Ability to operate a golf cart or rtv vehicle

    Uniform Requirements:Primarily business casual with Zoo logoed shirt provided for public and private event days as needed.
