    The Avian Department is offering an internship for undergraduate or graduate students working towards a degree inZoology, Wildlife Management, Biology, and other related fields.

    PurposeThe Avian intern assists in the care and maintenance of the avian collection.

    Key Responsibilities- Assist the keepers during the opening and closing of animal areas- Assist with cleaning of animal areas- Assist the keepers in maintaining the landscape in and around the exhibit areas- Assist the keepers in creating and/or researching animal enrichment- Assist with other tasks within the keepers duties

    DurationMinimum of 8 weeks, maximum of 12 weeks

    Qualifications- Must be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in an accredited college pursuing a degree in Zoology,Wildlife Management, Biology, and other related fields- Must be willing to study and learn facts, provided by the Zoo, to interact with guests during Zoo operating hours- Internships require a weekly commitment, minimum of 20 hours a week- Applicant must be able to work in an environment where tree nuts or peanuts may be present- Applicants for this position must submit an Application Packet, and are required to submit to a criminalbackground check as well as show recent proof of a current TB test

    Desired Skills- Ability to handle multiple tasks- Ability to lift 30 lbs. repeatedly- Ability to perform tasks in adverse weather conditions

    Due to strict animal husbandry guidelines and safety issues, there is no animal contact or inside exhibit work with theanimals in the Zoo. Remember, this is for their safety and well-being as well as yours.
