    National Center for Youth Law The National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) works to amplify youth power, dismantle racism and other structural inequities, and build just policies, practices, and culture in support of young people. Our efforts advance justice through research, community collaboration, impact litigation, and policy advocacy that fundamentally transforms our nation's approach to education, health, immigration, foster care, and youth justice. The Team The JusticeEd Initiative is a part of the Compassionate Education Systems initiative at NCYL, aimed at improving the educational outcomes of children and youth supervised by Probation in Santa Clara County. This initiative operates at systems, youth, and community levels to ensure students supervised by probation experience compassion by the many adults entrusted to support them and are supported on their path to graduate from high school and the many opportunities ahead of them. NCYL partners with the Santa Clara County Probation Department, Santa Clara County Juvenile Courts, a number of Santa Clara County school districts, and other stakeholders to implement this countywide program. Position NCYL seeks Education Liaisons for the JusticeEd demonstration site in Santa Clara County, a collaboration with the County Probation Department, Superior Court, Legal Advocates for Children and Youth, and school districts, aimed at improving education outcomes for youth supervised by Probation. This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about advocating on behalf of students and supporting academic success. Essential Functions Improve educational outcomes for youth on probation by working directly with youth to identify their educational goals and utilizing effective educational planning and teaming to support achievement of those goals. Bring together biological parents, caregivers, probation officers, behavioral health case managers, teachers and other adults to support students in achieving their educational goals. Provide individual coaching and support to students on probation to help them develop the skills and capacities needed to champion their own education. Provide individual coaching and support to biological parents, relatives, caregivers and other adults serving as educational decision-makers for young people under probation supervision to ensure they are equipped to actively support the youth's education. Provide youth advocacy for special education/ section 504 services, school of origin retention and school disciplinary proceedings. Frequently attend meetings on behalf of youth and to build relationships with schools, caregivers, probation, and other service providers within those communities. 
 Support capacity-building efforts via presentations and trainings to community partners. Track required data in a web-based case management tool in a consistent and timely manner. Required Qualifications Bilingual proficiency in Spanish Ability to pass DOJ & FBI background checks A valid California driver's license and regular access to a reliable vehicle Other Qualifications Committed to NCYL's mission Ability to work well autonomously and as a part of a team Demonstrated ability to quickly build rapport with youth and families, especially through virtual/remote engagement Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to stay organized with multiple work streams Excellent creative problem-solving skills Experience with advocacy or organizing, preferably related to education or juvenile justice Demonstrated ability to collaborate and coordinate services with community agencies in a professional manner Experience with youth-serving agencies and community resources in Santa Clara County Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practice Knowledge and demonstrated experience utilizing motivational Interviewing Knowledge about California's education, juvenile justice, and adult criminal justice systems Ability to navigate cloud servers, Zoom, phone systems and other software.  Physical Requirements   Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Requires ability to work remotely, with occasional travel and in-person meetings. Salary, Benefits & Location This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The salary is competitive at $73,307.00 annually.
