    National Center for Youth Law The National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) works to amplify youth power, dismantle racism and other structural inequities, and build just policies, practices, and culture in support of young people. Position NCYL seeks an Education Liaison for the Foster Education ("FosterEd") demonstration site in the Antelope Valley region of Los Angeles County, a collaboration with Antelope Valley Union High School District, Lancaster School District and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). This position is aimed at improving education outcomes for youth supervised by DCFS and the Dependency Court. This is a temporary position, with a length of 3-4 months only. This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about advocating on behalf of students in foster care and supporting academic success. Essential Functions Improve educational outcomes for youth in foster care by working directly with youth to identify their educational goals and using effective educational planning and coaching to support achievement of those goals. Frequent communication and teaming with biological parents, caregivers, children's social workers, mental health providers, teachers, counselors, and other adults. Provide individual coaching and support to biological parents, relatives, caregivers and other adults serving as educational decision-makers for young people under DCFS supervision to ensure they are equipped to actively support the youth's education. Frequently attend meetings on behalf of youth and to build relationships with schools, caregivers, DCFS, and other service providers within those communities. Track required data in a web-based case management tool in a consistent and timely manner. Support youth and families by providing linkages to community resources. Required Qualifications Ability to pass DOJ & FBI background checks A valid California driver's license and a reliable form of transportation Other Qualifications Knowledge about and ability to advocate in education and child welfare systems Experience serving students in the Antelope Valley/Los Angeles County Ability to learn new responsibilities quickly Strong interpersonal and communication skills Demonstrated ability to utilize a racial justice lens Demonstrated ability to build rapport with youth and families Awareness of local and regional community agencies that serve foster youth Awareness of community agencies and resources in the Antelope Valley Demonstrated ability to collaborate and coordinate services with community agencies in a professional manner Ability to work well autonomously and as a part of a team Ability to stay organized with multiple work streams and frequent change Ability to navigate cloud servers, Zoom, phone systems and other software The Antelope Valley Union High School District may require additional screening, including but not limited to: DOJ & FBI background check, TB test, and authorization for drug/substance use screening. We are looking to hire as soon as possible and anticipate this position lasting 3-4 months. Salary and Benefits This is a full-time, non-exempt, temporary position. The salary is competitive at $73,307.00 annually. This is not a benefitted position, except for as required by federal and/or California law.
