    POSITION EMPHASIS:  This position supports the NEA strategic objective to enhance organizational capacity through a focus on leadership development as a strategy to advance the mission of the NEA and its affiliates. This position advances the organization’s vision for leadership development and will use the NEA Leadership Competency Framework to create, design, and deliver virtual and in-person professional learning experiences that supports the development of education leaders.

    POSITION SUMMARY:  The primary responsibilities of this position include expertise in determining, developing, creating, and implementing a variety of competency-based educational and training products and services that support NEA’s Leadership Development program. Essential functions include applying the principles of andragogy in the creation and delivery of virtual and in-person learning opportunities across multiple modalities e.g. instructor-led, asynchronous, hybrid etc. The incumbent also analyzes, evaluates, and modifies training approaches as required based on learner data and feedback. The employee designs and implements curricula that support high-performing Association leaders. This individual serves as a subject matter expert and resource for national leaders and provides strategic guidance to management, governance and affiliates on NEA’s Leadership Development Competency Framework and leadership development strategy. To carry out responsibilities, the incumbent uses high-level writing, speaking, training, and interpersonal skills. In addition, the incumbent uses personal computers, associated software, and other office technology and travels occasionally.

    Required Skills

     

    MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:  A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Organization Development, Organizational Leadership, Education, Adult Education or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills is required.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Five years of professional experience in conceptualizing, developing, and delivering training for adults. Experience must involve analysis and evaluation of existing training materials and programs as well as the development of new learning experiences. Writing, editing, public speaking, instruction, and group facilitation. Experience developing presentations and trainings.  OTHER REQUIREMENTS:  Analytical ability, sound judgment, a member-oriented approach, a high degree of organization, and a commitment to continuous learning.  Samples of work products (i.e., writing, presentation handouts, training materials, etc.) may be required at time of interview.  Occasional travel required.

    Required Experience

     

    SELECTION CRITERIA: TIER 1 (ESSENTIAL):  Expertise and experience designing education-related materials. Experience in instructional design and program development.  Demonstrated understanding of leadership theories. Understanding of multiple modalities for delivering training/learning. Experience training/facilitating groups of various sizes. Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.  Demonstrated effectiveness in working on multiple projects under stringent timeframes and changing priorities/conditions.   Skill in working independently and within collaborative, cross-departmental teams. Experience developing and maintaining systems that support leadership development. Successful references. TIER 2 (SIGNIFICANT):  Experience using assessment tools, resources, and competency models. Knowledge of designing leadership development programs and curricula. Familiarity with popular training approaches. Experience measuring the impact of leadership development initiatives. Ability to partner with internal leaders and external vendors. Familiarity with issues related to systems thinking, adult learning, leadership development, unions, as well as familiarity with issues, trends, and needs of NEA leaders and members at multiple levels.  Proven ability to work collaboratively and creatively toward organizational goals. Ability to lead and/or conduct research to support leaders’ decision-making capabilities. TIER 3 (DESIRABLE):  Knowledge of the Center for Governance mission and strategic focus. Experience engaging elected Board and Executive Committee members. Experience working with NEA State Affiliates, Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Secretary-Treasurers.
