    Job Description

    The National Hispanic Medical Association is looking to employ a COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for supporting a variety of communications activities, with a focus on producing content and building engagement across NHMA’s websites, membership, social media channels, and supporting digital campaigns. Self-motivation, flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to successfully handle multiple projects are essential to this position. 

    Reporting to the Communications Manager, this role will provide support for building a communications team within NHMA. The Communications Coordinator is an important position within the team, perfect for someone with a strong background in building social media campaigns, increasing engagement, and working independently and collaboratively. The candidate is a team player with meticulous attention to detail and works well under pressure and meeting deadlines. The candidate has the ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment, is eager to learn, and is excited to bring their skill set to a small hard-working team.  

    RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Drafts a variety of content to support communications and marketing efforts, including but not limited to: press releases, email newsletters, website copy, op-eds, pitches, talking points, program descriptions, and promotional brochures

    • Assist Communications Manager and NHMA leadership in developing and implementing a communications strategy designed to further organization objectives 

    • Build and deploy email communications and support website edits and updates across the NHMA’s web properties through WordPress 

    • Perform outreach to varying press outlets and contacts as well as build strategic partnerships to grow brand notoriety 

    • Stay up to date on trending topics relating to the NHMA community. 

    • Share recommendations for communications strategies and campaigns 

    • Support Communications Manager with social media management including Twitter chats and webinars

    • Create events graphics and social media graphics 

    • Support design projects related to marketing and communications 

    • Create branding PP slides and a style guide for staff to utilize

    • Monitor NHMA’s media hits and track key analytics; use data to analyze success and shortcomings of communications campaigns and strategies

    • Support Communications Manager in making updates to NHMA’s multiple websites

    • Assist team with all conference and events promotions, outreach, and marketing materials

    NHMA is looking for a hard-working, positive, creative, and passionate professional for a full-time position based in the DC metro area. The applicant should have excellent written communication skills, with experience in Social Media and Website Development. Familiarity or interest in working with the Hispanic Community and Medical Professionals is desired and will be considered when choosing the best applicant for this position.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor’s degree required

    • 2+ years of nonprofit communications experience required

    • Proficiency with email marketing software

    • Proficiency with media tracking services 

    • Familiarity and/or proficiency with WordPress or other web-editing software 

    • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premier Pro, InDesign) or equivalent digital media editing tools is preferred 

    • Excellent knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and other social media best practice

    • Direct experience using social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite)

    • Graphic design experience required (e.g., Canva)

    • Experience with G-Suite and Slack preferred
