  • Responsibilities

    The National Marine Mammal Foundation (NMMF) is seeking job applicants to fill a full-time research assistantship supporting current dolphin echolocation research. The duration of the position will be for one year (with the possibility to extend) and will support the development of a dolphin/machine interface for the classification of targets based on their echo signatures. The project will involve acoustic analyses, hardware and software development, data management, and regular reporting to funding agencies. The employee will report directly to project managers.     The successful candidate will:

    Provide technical support in support of dolphin echolocation research being conducted with the US Navy Marine Mammal Program;

    Perform daily data collections, including setup, breakdown, and maintenance of research equipment;

    Conduct acoustic and behavioral analyses, oversee data quality control and management, and contribute to report writing;

    Write programming code in support of data analyses and hardware/software interfaces;

    Be willing to work outside of normal working hours, potentially working evenings and nights; and

    Potentially travel to support aspects of the project development.

    The expected start date will be 15 April 2023. Candidates with an engineering background will be favored given the technical nature of the work.
