The Government Affairs department of NPCA seeks highly motivated interns determined to contribute to our ability to successfully develop and implement an up tempo political advocacy and public engagement strategy on behalf of the National Park Service and System. Issue expertise is less important than the ability to learn quickly, participate fully in departmental efforts, and deliver on assigned projects in a timely, mistake-free fashion. NPCA relies upon policy interns to supplement limited staff capacity when faced with new issues and emerging threats to our national parks. The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in experiencing how advocacy campaigns are pieced together and maintained and a desire to develop an advanced understanding of how Congress operates and how grassroots advocacy can support a national park protection agenda. Qualifications/Requirements (i.e., education, technical skills): Candidates must be available to work in NPCAs DC office (6th & H Streets NW) for no fewer than 15 hours per week. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to work on Monday mornings from 9:30am to Noon several key departmental meetings take place during this time range. Describe the tangible deliverables (projects, outcomes) that will be achieved: Assisting full time staff with the development and updating of outreach and engagement materials (fact sheets, talking points, reports). Attending and reporting back on legislative hearings on Capitol Hill. Supporting outreach to Capitol Hill offices on a variety of park protection issues Conducting research on new and emerging issues. Assisting with GA-related requests from regional staff. Work Status: Part-time 20 Hours per week Ideal Work Schedule: Mondays from 9:30-noon are REQUIRED . We are willing to be flexible about the way in which your remaining hours are completed.
