NRO CADRE CYBERSECURITY STUDENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

If so, the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) is looking for you!
NRO is seeking motivated and qualified individuals to engage in the NRO Cadre Student Internship Program while applying creative solutions to cyber security problems. Summer interns are employees on a temporary appointment for a period of June-August 2021. After successfully completing the initial summer assignment, interns may be approved to work fill-time during winter breaks. Applicants must be US citizens, currently enrolled at least part time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university degree program (Associates, Bachelors, Graduate, or Post Graduate) with a Graduation date of Fall 2021 or later, have a strong academic record (cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above on a 4.0 scale), and possess outstanding communication skills. Selected candidates will be processed for a TS/SCI security clearance. Interns are eligible for a GG-05 or GG-07 with a salary range for the Washington D.C. area of $39,291 – $48,670.
As a Cybersecurity intern for NRO, you will work with a team directly supporting new and continuing missions through design, development, deployment, operations, and maintenance of critical NRO information assurance infrastructure. You will work side-by-side with other Cyber Security officers, using IT equipment, instruments, or software related to a technical professional field to learn basic, methods, techniques, and procedures to carry out specific tasks that are generally small phases of a larger project of assignment. One of the primary purposes of cyber and technology positions at the NRO is to provide professional technical advice on Information Technology (IT) issues affecting the organization.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible to participate in NRO’s Student Internship Program applicants must meet the following requirements.
TO QUALIFY FOR THE GG-05: Applicant must be currently enrolled at least half-time in a Department of Education Accredited Post-secondary Institution and Program (DAPIP) two-year or four-year College or University.
Must be enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program with coursework related to NRO’s mission. Minimum GPA of 3.2 or Higher. Ability to work within a team or collaborative environment.
TO QUALIFY FOR THE GG-07: Applicant must be currently enrolled at least half-time in a Department of Education Accredited Post-secondary Institution and Program (DAPIP) College or University.
Applicants who have completed a baccalaureate program, and are in the first semester of a subsequent degree program at the time of application (i.e. just started a graduate program after previously completing or will be completing a bachelor’s previous to start of internship May/June 2021) will be required to submit the final transcript from their previous degree program during the application process.
IN ADDITION, an ideal candidate would possess basic skill in using office automation programs such as Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, or other desktop software programs. Additionally, the ability to organize work and communicate effectively in a professional environment are highly desirable traits.

DCIPS COVERAGE
These positions are a Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS) position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1601.
TRIAL PERIOD
All new DCIPS employees will be required to serve a 2-year trial period.
