    THE OPPORTUNITY

    We are looking for a data engineer with a very strong background in querying, transforming, and extracting data from a diverse set of existing data sources for various teams in our organization. This candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of related experience for a full-time position within our fast paced and growing company.

    THE ROLE

    • Extract data from various sources and prepare data for the data sciences team and customer-facing client teams.
    • Evaluate, parse, and clean raw data sets as well as help build sophisticated ETL processes around third-party data sources.
    • Maintain database servers, including but not limited to installation, upgrades, and patches to all databases/instances; ensuring proper security levels are maintained; tuning; cloning; and day-to-day maintenance to ensure a high level of reliability and stability.
    • Provide recommendations for data designs, configurations, and new technologies/architectures.
    • Develop code-based data transformation in SQL databases and in connection to 3rd party datasets.
    • Assist application developers in the effective use of database query and programming languages.
    • Monitor database error logs to ensure proper capacity and availability.
    • Perform backups and be prepared for data and database recovery needs.

    • Successfully manages time and multiple competing priorities in order to ensure deadlines are always met.
    • Team player who is able to work collaboratively and initiate and drive projects to completion with minimal oversight.

    IDEAL CANDIDATE

    • BS/BA in Data Sciences/Computer Science/related field.
    • A solid foundation with end-to-end development and the desire to further their technical knowledge.
    • 3+ years of experience in database server technologies.
      • PostgreSQL or AWS Redshift experience required.
      • MS SQL/Oracle experience is preferred but not mandatory.
    • 2+ years of experience in working with Spark: Creating data transformation and aggregation.
    • Knowledge of PII (personally identifiable information) data security standards.
    • Knowledge of system and application security threats and vulnerabilities.
    • Experience in data backups (full/incremental) and recovery concepts and tools.
    • Facilitate preparing data sets for connections to SPSS, Tableau, PowerBI, etc.
    • Experience in databases structured against survey data is a big plus.
    • Experience in AWS technologies/infrastructures are a plus (RDS/AWS Redshift).

    POSITION TYPE

    This is a full-time, exempt position.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    This job currently operates remote but will eventually be set in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
