    Job Description

    NNM IS SEEKING CANDIDATES FOR A MONTESSORI INSTRUCTIONAL COACH FOR THE 3-6/PRIMARY LEVEL STARTING BY JULY 2023. This is a leadership level position within the school and a wonderful opportunity to work in a well-established, urban, Montessori school with a very talented team of teachers, assistants and other faculty members and leaders. 

    The coach’s primary responsibilities are to lead the 3-6 level while sustaining culture that supports learners and student-facing faculty members; lead the 3-6 level academic and cultural vision for the school; to build and develop leadership in faculty members; and to support families in their engagement and partnership with the school. The coach will be part of the leadership team and participate in school-wide decision-making, strategic planning, and educational program design.

    SCHEDULE FOR THIS POSITION IS TYPICALLY 8AM TO 4PM WITH ADDITIONAL HOURS BASED ON SCHOOL NEEDS AND SCHEDULES. THIS IS A YEAR ROUND POSITION, MEANING FULL-TIME WORK IN THE SCHOOL YEAR AND OVER SUMMER; PAID TIME OFF PROVIDED OVER SCHOOL BREAKS, HOLIDAYS AND USING VACATION AND SICK TIME.

    Responsibilities include:

    Development and Implementation of Montessori Curriculum 

    • Organizes and directs the 3-6 level program of the school
    • Ensures that the educational program is delivered according to the school’s mission and vision 
    • Observes in classrooms weekly with tools for on-going assessment of full implementation
    • Works with adults to ensure equity in access to quality lessons, materials, and experiences throughout the school
    • Models grace and courtesy in all interactions with children, adults, and families
    • Collaborates with teachers, Associate Head of School and others on student behavior and discipline matters
    • Persists in serving students and adults in spite of obstacles or resistance
    • Support classrooms as needed during teacher absences and to support observations and practice

    Planning, Leadership, and Management 

    • Works with the Associate Head of School to set vision, strategy, and goals, participating in leadership meetings
    • Collaborates on the recruitment, selection and orientation of educational school staff
    • Supports the processes for student transition and class placement
    • Establishes and supports policies, procedures and routines of the school
    • Orients new members to and guides the planning & recordkeeping process for all classroom adults
    • Collaborates on the creation of a school schedule that supports the implementation of the Montessori approach
    • Informs priorities for use of time in the daily, weekly, and yearly calendars and executes accordingly

    Staff Development 

    • Conducts weekly observations and one-on-one coaching meetings with classroom teachers
    • Meets regularly with adults who interact with children and families to ensure consistency of Montessori practice
    • Manages and evaluates assigned faculty members
    • Informs and supports professional development based on the interests and needs of the staff and the school community

    Assessment and Feedback

    • Collects data about work engagement and academic performance through regular observation 
    • Uses a variety of data points to drive conversations about classroom practice and planning
    • Ensures teaching and assessment tools for alignment with the Montessori method and curriculum are effectively used
    • Analyzes accountability metrics to inform school wide goals and priorities
    • Leads classroom adults in data review process, regularly looking at assessment results to shift instruction or make changes in practice to serve all learners

    Collaboration, Communication and Community Relations 

    • Engages in face to face interactions with families through participating in school wide routines, events, and celebrations
    • Helps to set the vision for family engagement, education, and outreach
    • Collaborates on school wide messaging to families and the community including progress reports, newsletters, and initiatives
    • Fosters opportunities for dialogue about culturally responsive teaching, current events, and serving all children within our community
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree required

    5+ years of teaching experience in a Montessori classroom; Montessori trained at the Primary / 3-6 level; additional Montessori training a plus

    • Deeply committed to the Montessori philosophy and lifelong learning, engaging in ongoing Montessori, and other professional development
    • Supervisory or related leadership experience in an academic setting
    • Brings strong communication skills and is able to engage in honest talk and difficult conversations with professionalism and respect for all.
    • Ability to commit to equitable education practices, anti-bias, anti-racist work and learning
    • Works collaboratively, respectful of differing opinions, with flexibility and a willingness to learn, approaching obstacles or conflicts with curiosity and humility.
    • Demonstrated ability to execute assigned tasks, work and projects
    • Demonstrates the capacity for independent work, flexibility, and the ability to handle multiple demands. 
    • Demonstrated ability to thoughtfully manage student, family, classroom and cultural dynamics and boundaries within the school community
    • Demonstrated proficiency in working with current educational and related technologies

    Additional Information

    NNM offers a competitive compensation package with a salary range for this position starting at $90,000 and increasing based on teaching and leadership experience plus educational background.
