Job Description
We are seeking candidates to fill our Drama Teacher position starting in mid-August as we kick off the 2021/22 school year. This is a dynamic position responsible for teaching students and supporting their work and development in drama, theater and related areas of study. You would provide a critical role in supporting and guiding students’ play writing, performance production, and use of video and audio recording as an extension for their Montessori work and self expression.
This is a 10-month (i.e. school year), full-time, benefit eligible position. It's a great opportunity to lead creative, student-inspired work throughout the school community.
Schedule: 40 hours per week during the school year (mid-August to mid-June); hours are typically Monday to Friday 9:30am to 5:30pm; additional time may be required for meetings, evening performances and other related events.
DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Set up and maintain a collaborative and creative learning environment with a focus on the drama, theater, sound and video production while contributing to other areas within the innovation/workshop space and co-curricular classes
Help to care for and manage various spaces, including the theater, studios and more
Build a culture of creativity and exploration with students and faculty
Support students transitions into and out of lessons and spaces; monitor student use of space, resources, tools and materials
Teach elementary level co-curricular classes based on the schedule and rotations established for each level. Connect topics and lessons to other subjects such as music, art, classroom projects and more; monitor student progress
Work with elementary classrooms for their class plays and performances, providing expertise, guidance and support to the teachers and students as they develop scenes, practice and perform; includes writing and devising, rehearsal, preparation of design elements, and final performance
Establish and teach guidelines for positive student behavior and productive work in the classrooms and studios, developing a strong classroom management structure while allowing for freedom and creativity within limits
Connect with faculty members to understand the needs of students both individually and as groups
Guide and support student interest through direct teaching and instruction in the areas of innovation, performance, design and technology. This includes the specific classes noted above, and supporting students dropping into the workshop space for unstructured work time
Create, set up and teach after school classes each session during the school year working closely with the Programs office to coordinate and plan
Support the planning for summer camp related to theatre and drama; additional stipend payment for summer camp if teaching in the summer program
Seek out and encourage input from administration, faculty, and staff on program development
Participate in relevant meetings, events and presentations and participate in professional development that guides use and evolution of the studio spaces and learning
Other duties as assigned including recess support and level wide, year end class trips as needed and scheduled

Employment to begin in August of 2021. Starting salary for teachers is $50,000 per year. Experienced candidates would be eligible for an increased salary based on experience relevant to the position.
