English Language Teacher Assistant
Background: NAAM is a non-profit organization which provides social support services to refugees and immigrants residing on the North Shore. The core services include: ESOL classes, employment assistance and job coaching, skills training, case management, after-school and summer programming for youth and children K-12, citizenship assistance and civics/history classes. NAAM conducts an online adult ESOL program to teach conversation/pronunciation, reading, listening and writing. These English for the Workplace classes have an employment focus to equip students with the necessary language skills to succeed at their jobs.
Job Title: English Language Teacher Assistant Location: Remote – NAAM offices located in Lynn and Lowell, MA
Schedule: 10 hours per week Availability: Monday through Thursday from between during class times (10am-12pm) plus additional hours for 1-on-1 tutoring and/or class related tasks each week (these hours can be at a time of your choosing).
Responsibilities: • Support teacher(s) with the instruction of online ESOL teaching in reading, writing, conversation/pronunciation, grammar to adult language learners (approximately 12-15 students) by facilitating break out rooms, providing 1-on-1 tutoring, and assisting with other class related tasks as assigned by the teacher(s). • Implement and adhere to provided curriculum and instructions. • Assist with tracking student attendance and outreach to absent students. • Substitute for classes on an as-needed basis. • Provide digital literacy support to students who have trouble navigating Google Classroom (logging into class, naming oneself, muting and unmuting, using the chat, etc). • Other duties as required.
Qualifications: • Excellent command of the English language. • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. • Demonstrated experience in foreign language acquisition. • Proficiency and experience in Google Meet (our program’s videoconferencing platform), Google Classroom, Google Slides, Google Sheets, Google Docs. • Experience in teaching and demonstrated ability to teach diverse populations and skill levels in one classroom strongly preferred. • Candidates currently enrolled in a college degree program are encouraged to apply • Individuals with lived immigrant/refugee experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
Compensation & Schedule: $20 per hour, 10 hours per week
