    Job Description

    Welcome Co-Op Intern

    This position is intended to provide qualified interns with an experience of helping with logistics in preparation for the arrival of new refugee families from around the globe. In this role, the intern will have the opportunity to refine his/her capacity to manage logistics for new housing, trouble-shoot challenges, maintain inventory, communicate clearly with community partners, and provide professional response and follow-up to donors and vendors, along with other critical skills.

     

                                                                              KEY RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                                               

     

    ·       Prepare apartments for incoming arrivals, including stocking all required household and personal care items and assembling and placing all furniture and household items.

    ·       Handle donation inventory, including organization of items and accurate record keeping, using paper forms and electronic spreadsheets, databases, and information-sharing systems.

    ·       Organize storage facility for ease of loading, locating, and unloading items. Maintain an organized and sanitary facility. Dispose of unusable (e.g., unsuitable, broken, surplus) items according to agency policies/procedures and relevant requirements.

    ·       Load and unload vehicles responsibly, ensuring safety and security of passengers and items, especially large, heavy items (e.g., furniture).

    ·       Help manage and run the Shop of Hope (stocking and organizing, managing volunteer helpers, ordering supplies, handling customers both paying and non-paying, tracking and inventorying of product, etc.)

    ·       Help manage donations pick-up and drop-off inquiries. Receive and process donations and help unload vehicles responsibly, ensuring safety and security of passengers and items.

    SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES                                              

     

    ·       Ability to communicate with people of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds; cultural sensitivity

    ·       Strong organization skills; the ability to multitask and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment

    ·       Willingness to gain understanding of basic refugee experience; sensitive to the refugees’ histories

    ·       Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. alone or greater loads in tandem with others

    ·       Basic computer skills
