    Job Description

    This internship requires a minimum commitment of 8-10 hours per week for 4 months in the New American Pathways’ office.

    General Description

    This position is intended to provide qualified interns with opportunities to learn through experience about key aspects of strengthening civic engagement within New American communities and immigrant rights advocacy. The position is ideal for candidates with a background in education, social sciences, and/or communication who are interested in utilizing their skills and knowledge to contribute to a more welcoming political and civic environment that values the contributions of refugees and immigrants in Georgia

    Key Responsibilities

    ·       Help plan and organize annual advocacy day at the Georgia Capitol

    ·       Attend voter registration events and register new voters for 2020 elections

    ·       Facilitate development and execution of initiatives that work to increase 2020 Census completion rates among new Americans

    ·       Assist in the design and implementation of communication campaigns aimed at uplifting refugee and immigrant voices and highlighting their contributions to our state and community

    ·       Attend assigned sessions at the Georgia General Assembly and help track relevant legislation impacting refugees and immigrants

    ·       Communicate with elected and appointed officials on behalf of organization

    ·       Work on special projects for Civic Engagement Manager and other duties as assigned

    Skills and Competencies

    ·       Strong organization skills; the ability to multitask and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment

    ·       Knowledge of and/or interest in Georgia’s political environment

    ·       Basic computer skills (MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

    ·       Strong public speaking skills

    ·       Ability to work some nights and weekends required

    ·       Decisive and able to work with minimal supervision

    ·       Submit to criminal background check

    ·       Sensitivity to cultural, ethnic and religious diversity

    ·       Interest in working in a nonprofit organization and in the refugee community

    Strong written and oral communication skills
