    NEW CITY KIDS MISSION AND WORK: New City Kids’ mission is “loving kids for change to create a community of spiritual, leadership, academic and musical development.” The program has a two-tiered structure, each tier complementing the other. First, New City Kids operate highly structured academic and performing arts-focused after-school centers five days a week. But what really makes the After School Center unique is the second tier. Instead of staffing the program with paid adults or volunteers, high school students are employed as “Teen Life Interns.” These 450-hour per year internships are designed to open teens’ eyes to their own amazing abilities and to awaken them to the joy of leadership, the goodness of earning money, the attainability of a college education and the transforming power of God’s love.

    POSITION GOALS: To create philanthropic partnerships with people who align with the mission and vision of New City Kids which will result in transformative funding for local, regional and national funding priorities. This work will result in the long term financial success of New City Kids, and provide real but intangible benefits and joy for the philanthropic partners who are or become involved with us.

    PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

    Mature and growing follower of Jesus Christ; outwardly articulates and expresses their love for the Lord and has demonstrated faith in action that exemplifies maturity

    Exercises their faith in their community and inwardly with spiritual disciplines

    Passionate about linking God's people together to achieve His purposes

    Natural proclivity to learning about the work of New City Kids and excitement about the idea of involving other people in the good work that is being done

    ROLE SPECIFICATIONS

    Donor Engagement: At least 70% of this role requires the Major Gifts Officer to be spent growing relationships with people, including connecting with or preparing plans toward the ultimate purposes of qualifying, cultivating, and inviting them to join financially in the work of New City Kids, stewarding the gift and relationship. Specifically;

    List Size: Donor and prospect list will begin with up to 100 donors and prospective donors from the East Coast, most of who reside in or near New Jersey/New York City vicinity

    Visits: Three to five visits per week with donors or prospective donors plus networking opportunities, local New City Kids events and selected New City Kids church visits. There is an expectation the Major Gifts Officer will appropriately involve the local executive director, operations staff, or leadership staff at key visits and will prepare them for the visit.

    Moves Management: Qualify prospective donor desire to give to New City Kids through a relationship driven moves management process. Determine who to recommend adding or removing from the list based on capacity to give, affinity for the work of New City Kids, and relational strength. Suggest appropriate reassignment as indicated by the work that was done

    Focus Area: Eighty percent of donor engagement and relational energies will be spent in the following main areas of the file:

    the top 5-10 major gift prospects most likely to give $25,000 or more to New City Kids in the current year

    the donors who annually give 80% of the total gifts in the donor file

    the donors in the file who are most likely to give a gift within the next 3-6 months

    lapsed donors

    Goal Setting: Annual goal setting for all current and lapsed donors in the file and overall goal for prospective donors (a new gifts goal) in collaboration with the CAO

    Written Plans: Prepare and execute written annual donor engagement plans for the donors and prospects on the list in collaboration with the CAO

    Stewardship, Teamwork, Reports, Meetings: The balance of time in this role will be spent preparing reports or proposals for donors or prospects, recording data, research, or training. Additional time will be spent in planning, attending New City Kids Advancement team meetings, or other team meetings as warranted for the role

    QUALIFICATIONS AND DEMONSTRATED EXPERIENCE

    A strong commitment and ability to communicate the goals and mission of New City Kids, including a personal and active Christian commitment, and strong alignment with our statement of faith and diversity, equity and inclusion policy

    Loves to learn and grow skills in fundraising

    Looks forward to and has demonstrated experience and skill in asking people for gifts or closing sales agreements

    Comfortable with inviting people to join New City Kids and give gifts of $100,000 or more

    Demonstrated successful sales or major gifts fundraising experience

    Bachelor’s degree required, an advanced degree or certifications (e.g. CFRE) is preferred

    Preference given to candidates with 10+ years in demonstrated success in relational sales or major gifts fundraising in New Jersey/New York City vicinity

    Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

    Experience preparing and delivering presentations to small and large audiences

    Reports to: Chief Advancement Officer

    Location: New Jersey / New York region.

    This position includes frequent local travel for the purpose of prospect and donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, as well as site visits with local teams.

    Administrative work can be done remotely.
