    Job Description

    SUMMARY: The Primary role for the Training Programs Instructor is to develop and support New Horizons’ youth program in the schools, creating a welcoming, active and outcome-oriented experience for youth with disabilities and provide training and support to participants in the Go4Grocery Program. The Training Programs Instructor will be assigned 50% of time to Youth Navigation Services and 50% of time to Go4Grocery Program.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

    1. Working in partnership with the Youth Services Specialist, Go4Grocery Manager, and others within the departments to ensure that Students/Participants are fully supported in their life and career choices.

    2. Implementing the approved curriculum platform and materials; communicates regularly with the Youth Services Specialist and Go4Grocery Manger to ensure program is implemented consistently and effectively. Proactively seek support and supervision.

    3. Marketing programs within New Horizons; CLS, Residential, Supported Employment; Day Program and to other agencies and programs to generate participants to meet target goals.

    4. Providing in-person instruction virtually, on-site and in the community. Instructor will need to have knowledge and experience using public transportation.

    5. Tracking the progress of each Student/Participant assigned.

    6. Summarizes data collected from program participants to report on outcomes as required/needed.

    YOUTH NAVIGATIONS SERVICES:

    1. Supporting the Youth Navigation Center goal of working with transition age Special Needs students, with a focus on travel training and employment preparation.

    2. Working closely with students who have recently graduated, and are looking for community-based services, including housing, recreation, employment, day services, travel training, college to career support and other related programs/options as they build a full and fulfilling life.

    3. Developing and maintaining partnerships with teaching staff and administration at local high schools and colleges.

    4. Providing “case coordination” assistance to Students/Families who have chosen New Horizon Services to ensure their success.

    5. Assisting the Youth Services Specialist with maintaining attendance records

    GO4GROCERY PROGRAM:

    1. Developing and maintaining partnerships with local grocery/retail stores to support training and employment for participants in Go4Grocery.

    2. Supporting the Go4Grocery Program goal of supporting adults with Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities to receive training in grocery/retail store skills, career explorations, and employment.

    3. Communicating with the Department of Rehabilitation and Regional Centers, assisting with intake for Go4Grocery.

    4. Complete deliverable paperwork for each Participant assigned in Go4Grocery.

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

    1. Attends meetings and trainings as directed.

    2. Supports the Agency’s mission and partners with others to accomplish the mission.

    3. Maintains the highest professional and ethical standards at all times.

    4. Maintains proficiency in computer applications and databases as required for this position.

    5. Maintains Student/Participant confidentiality at all times.

    6. Performs other duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no Supervisory responsibilities with this position.

    QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be highly professional and able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     Problem solving skills and the ability to follow through on a situation to its logical end. Attention to detail and the ability to use good judgment and make sound decisions relating to the health and safety of the consumers served.

    Excellent time management. Computer proficiency in Outlook, Word, Zoom (and/or comparable virtual platforms) and the ability to learn other applications as needed.

    Ability to write in English client progress reports and business correspondence as requested. Ability to effectively present information in English and respond to questions from clients, customers, family members, school personnel and the general public.

    Access to a vehicle, proof of vehicular insurance, a valid California Driver’s License, and a driving record acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier are required.

    Belief in the agency philosophy and in the dignity of the individual; demonstrated ability to work in a cooperative and supportive manner with staff, consumers, and the community; must also demonstrate the ability to organize work in an efficient and timely manner to meet the demands of the job.

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Education equivalent to an AA degree with an emphasis in human services. A minimum of two years’ work/ teaching experience with individuals who have been diagnosed with an Intellectual/ Developmental Disability or comparable experience.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read in English. Good verbal and written communication skills required. Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.
