    Job Description: Provide academic support to elementary school students in the New Possibilities Youth Program, providing academic learning support, adult leadership, and behavior modeling. The position reports to the Chief Program Officer through the Education Coordinator.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    Academic Support

    Assist students with academic work

    Apply hands-on learning techniques, games, etc. to reinforce academic skills

    Read to or take turns reading with students giving examples of good reading skills

    Activities

    Oversee projects and experiential learning to reinforce learning and create interest and excitement

    Actively lead planned field trips ensuring proper behavior

    Supervision

    Follow, maintain and adjust a weekly plan for academics and activities in coordination with the Education Coordinator

    Oversee students during pre-session snack or the Community Center

    Oversee students in any use of outside activity time

    Oversee daily dismissal, ensuring that no student is released to an adult other than one pre-registered as cleared for that student’s pick up

    Ensure that the classroom is tidied and ready for other programs at the end of each session

    Be flexible, willing to take the children on trips an interact with children and presenters while away.

    Be open to the children’s feedback. Adjust to reasonable request

    Committed to improving the education and lives of the poorest of the poor and to the future of Selma

    Requirements

    High School Diploma or equivalent

    Some technology skills – to help children with assignments

    Be active with children – not at a desk

    Creative and self-motivated. If something is not working with the children that day – improvise
