Life Skills Coach - Auburn
Position 1: SLS Monday through Thursday evenings 4 pm to 11 pm
Position 2: IHSS* Monday - Thursday Overnights 11pm-8A

LIFE SKILLS COACH:
The Life Skills Coach does exactly that – coach adults on life skills. We work with adults with developmental disabilities who live independently and wish to be more independent. The Life Skills Coach (LSC) will assist the client with learning daily skills such as menu planning, grocery shopping and cooking, budgeting, cleaning, and using public transportation. The LSC will assist the consumer with medical and dental appointments. The LSC will assist the consumer with transportation when working on individual service plan objectives and services. These are a few examples of the type of work you will be doing.
*Position 2 (IHSS): Not employed by New Start SLS. IHSS is a separate employer provided by Placer County. New Start assists individuals we support with hiring IHSS staff. You would work directly for the client and IHSS in Placer County. IHSS staff must be certified through Placer County IHSS or be willing to become certified as part of the hiring process. Pay for IHSS shifts determined by Placer County IHSS.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience in caregiving, education, or working with people with disabilities.
HIRING CRITERIA AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
Must be able to pass a DOJ Live Scan fingerprint background check.
Possession and proof of a valid California Drivers License, vehicle insurance, a good driving record, and willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of employment (should driving clients be required).
Must show evidence of a negative TB test within the last year (or get one).
Ability to pass drug screen at the request of New Start.
Must be CPR Certified or willing to become certified
For IHSS Position: Must be currently certified with Placer County IHSS or willing to become certified as part of the hiring process.
Must have at least 1 year experience in care-giving, education, or working/volunteering with people with disabilities or equivalent education. Must be able to work with and support people who have disabilities.
