    Job Description

    POSITION SUMMARY  

    The Vice President of Marketing and Audience Engagement oversees all activities related to conceptualizing and implementing marketing and audience engagement strategy. They will work closely with senior staff on marketing and audience engagement related activities.  While marketing of New World Symphony public offerings will be the highest priority, they will have significant interaction with NWS Fellows and will work within the framework of NWS’ mission and vision.  Specific responsibilities include marketing; advertising; ticket sales; audience experience; front-of-house; and hiring and directing the day-to-day activities of marketing and guest services staff.  

     DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

    • Creates, manages, and executes all marketing strategies for growing and diversifying audiences for the New World Symphony (NWS) in the performance hall, in other venues in Miami, and on the internet; implements tactical plans that meet or exceed the organization’s ticket sales goals 
    • Conceives, implements and manages all subscription and single ticket direct marketing campaigns 
    • Oversees telemarketing and advertising efforts, ensuring effectiveness to achieve ticket sales goals and broader organizational goals 
    • Carries out marketing functions in a manner consistent with the NWS brand to support, develop and expand that brand 
    • Oversees ticket pricing strategies and the creation of ticket packages 
    • Collaborates with the Sr. Director of Research and Design to ensure marketing and audience engagement strategy is informed by audience research
    • Works with colleagues in Communications and Public Relations to promote NWS concerts, events and projects; provides support with writing, editing, and proofreading all marketing materials 
    • Works with colleagues in Artistic Programs to ensure that programming decisions generate high demand for tickets while reflecting the organization’s educational and artistic vision; provides input regarding the scheduling, frequency and structure of concert programming 
    • Sustains the new audience initiative that reimagines presentational formats and building experiences that are attractive to new audiences and integrates Fellow performances; measures the results of the new audience initiatives, both in terms of the number of new audience members and the impact of the experience 
    • Oversees the NWS WALLCAST® concert experience utilizing the projection of live classical music performances at SoundScape Park to attract new audiences and corporate sponsorship 
    • Works with colleagues in Development to determine proper metrics and methods for soliciting and increasing donations from audiences 
    • Works with colleagues in Musician Advancement to educate Fellows in the areas under purview as part of preparing them to be concert producers 
    • Participates in peer marketing meetings and represents NWS at relevant conferences, symposia and other gatherings and convenings 
    • Manages the marketing budget 
    • Manages marketing and guest services staff, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, and mentoring team members

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

    Qualified applicants will have a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field and a minimum of five to seven years of marketing and audience engagement experience, ideally in an orchestra or similar arts organization; or combination of equivalent education and experience 

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES  

    • Ability to inspire fellow team members to achieve common goals and exceed expectations 
    • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating with internal and external contacts in a manner using considerable tact required to achieve results  
    • Strong knowledge of marketing concepts including product development, pricing, branding, positioning, qualitative and quantitative research 
    • Knowledge of digital marketing strategy and ability to leverage digital platforms to optimize performance 
    • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and proofreading skills  
    • Excellent customer service skills 
    • Knowledge of database management, payment processing and customer relations 
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite  
    • Knowledge of Tessitura and ArtsVision helpful 
    • Ability to quickly learn new technology and software trends  
    • Strong analytical, planning, forecasting, and budgeting skills 
    • Ability to be flexible and to manage multiple, complex priorities within demanding timeframes 
    • Knowledge of and passion for classical repertoire and artists

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS  

    Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
