    DISCOVERY INTERN

     

    _Are you a responsible and hardworking individual who is interested in a career in non-profit work?  Are you an inquisitive learner who enjoys having ownership of your work and seeing projects through to completion?  Do you have high attention to detail and are able to multi-task on several initiatives successfully at once? _ _Have you ever thought about using your talents to make a significant impact addressing some of the world’s leading problems?  _

    The Arbor Day Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees and is headquartered in Lincoln, NE.  Discovery Interns work directly as a functioning member of multiple teams.  As a Discovery intern, you will be exposed to four departments over the course of 17-weeks to gain a better understanding of how departments operate.  These areas include: Business Intelligence and Finance, Development, Direct Marketing, Marketing/Creative Services, Public Relations, Arbor Day Programs, Product Development, Human Resources and Operations.  This internship is designed for sophomore or junior level college students who want to gain a better understanding of non-profits and how they operate. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Support department projects
    • Research new topics and develop department materials
    • Special projects or other duties as assigned
    • Attend the Foundations orientation and professional development classes as applicable
    • Meet and interact with Arbor Day employees at a variety of levels
    • Participate in department team-building activities
    • Collaborate internally with employees and departments to accomplish work projects

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A passion for the Foundation's mission, nature, environmental stewardship, and people.
    • Motivated, goal-oriented individual who can manage projects, meet deadlines and exceed expectations.
    • Strong, effective communicator, both written and oral.
    • Effective collaborator and liaison to other areas of the Foundation.
    • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, engaged team member with high degree of professionalism.
    • Knowledge of computers.  Preferably Microsoft packages.
    • Pursuing a degree and entering either your sophomore or junior year this fall.

    TIMING/HOURS:

    • Fall Semester internship
    • 15-20 hours/week
