POSITION SUMMARY: LYFE strives to ensure that every child of a student
parent is provided with high-quality early childhood education, and
every student parent has the opportunity to earn a high school or high
school equivalency (HSE) diploma and has clear and effective
postsecondary plans, increasing the likelihood of successful life
outcomes for both them and their child. LYFE is a multi-sited program
with approximately 38 sites citywide and a budget of $13.9 million.
The School Business Manager Level 2 position collaborates with and
provides key supports to administrators and staff at LYFE. The incumbent
objectively evaluates information, analyzes data, assists the Principal
in developing policy, and makes sound judgments while tailoring
management style to the culture, demographics and needs of LYFE. The
School Business Manager works collaboratively with staff at schools,
external organizations and key Central office personnel, supervises
staff, and also works on projects independently. The School Business
Manager L2 oversees LYFE program operations, budgeting, personnel,
administrative, and other non-instructional matters to enable
administration to focus on instruction. Performs related work.
REPORTS TO: School Principal
DIRECT REPORTS: School Business Manager L1, School support staff.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS: Serves as a point of contact regarding
non-instructional matters for external constituents, including community
groups and other city agencies. Establishes and maintains liaison with
appropriate operating components of the school system.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and lead LYFE program operations citywide.
- Manage and lead School Business Manager L1 and their work directly
related to procurement, contracts, and budget.
- Oversee all procurement and budget related activities.
- Develop and oversee vendor relations in order to ensure
program quality.
- Collaborate with District Office Human Resources and Finance staff
in order to support and enhance LYFE program operations and
administrative matters relating to personnel, business,
finance, contracts. Attends trainings as necessary.
- Direct and lead the work of school support staff.
- Oversee administrative activities of the program, including
budgeting, accounting, school transportation, personnel, technology,
physical plant issues and other related administrative matters.
- Assist the principal in overseeing the administration of support
activities related to the provision of school food services.
- Oversee the review of contracts and bids to ensure compliance with
established purchasing procedures.
- Collaborate with principal in review of grant applications for
non-instructional items, such as those for personnel, supplies
and equipment.
- Support instructional staff in grant administration, including the
preparation of annual progress reports and demonstration
of outcomes.
- Responsible for overseeing business, financial and other
administrative matters, and implementing recommendations
related thereto.
- Collaborates with school administrators.
- Serves as a point of contact regarding non-instructional matters for
external constituents, including community groups and other
city agencies.
- Analyzes student data to support the principal’s instructional and
classroom priorities. Prepares reports in response to requests
for information.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of
full-time satisfactory professional experience in one or a
combination of the following areas: accounting, auditing, budget,
contract administration, financial administration, management,
personnel or a closely related field; or
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or
supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, business,
finance, educational administration, management, personnel
administration, public administration, or a closely related field
and two years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in
one or a combination of the areas described in “1” above; or
- A master’s degree from an accredited college in accounting,
business, finance, educational administration, management, personnel
administration, public administration, or a closely related field
and one year of satisfactory full-time professional experience in
one or a combination of the areas described in “1” above.
PREFERRED
- Professional experience working in school administration
and organization.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability in using Galaxy and FAMIS Portal
and managing the finances of a school, including but not limited to,
payroll, ordering and purchasing, recordkeeping and compliance.
- Demonstrated ability in completion of surveys and reports relative
to management of personnel, school facility and community relations.
SALARY: $72,437+
(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who
currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will
not make less than their current salary.)
