    POSITION SUMMARY: As part of the Comprehensive School Support (CSS) strategy, the Director of Academic Response Team (ART) will support the Executive Superintendent and Executive Director of the Borough\Citywide Office in providing guidance and leadership to Academic Response Team Specialists, and other staff working on continuous schools improvement at the Borough/Citywide Offices (BCOs).  The Director will support implementation of varied streams of instructional and policy work across the Office of the First Deputy Chancellor to advance school improvement, and design and supervise the facilitation of push-in and pull-out professional development and support to schools in increasing student achievement.  The Director will supervise and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the team of ART specialists at BCOs that will work across schools in need of targeted and rapid improvement. Under the direction of the Executive Superintendent, the Director has the primary focus to ensure the development of high-leverage leadership/teaming structures to ensure the effective use of learner-centered and pedagogical practice being addressed and leveraged to inform rapid improvement cycles in schools. 

     

    The Director of Academic Response Team (ART) will work in close collaboration with the other BCO staff in designing, implementing, assessing, refining, and scaling the development of school improvement strategies to support schools in a coherent and cohesive manner.  The Director will represent the Borough/Citywide Offices and support the broader vision and mission of the DOE around continuous school improvement. This position will work closely with Superintendents and their teams, the Executive Director of the Borough/Citywide Offices, and all Directors in the Borough/Citywide Offices to plan and coordinate cohesive systems to support schools through the elements of the Framework for Great Schools and in support of the Chancellor’s Four Priorities. The Director will lead the implementation of effective guidance, expertise, tools, and materials that help educators at all instructional levels in high-need and subgroup areas, as multidisciplinary teams. The Director will ensure that systems and structures are in place for continued organizational effectiveness, effective learning and teaching, and accelerated student achievement.  Performs related work.

     

    REPORTS TO: Executive Superintendent

     

    DIRECT REPORTS: Academic Response Team Specialist, Borough/Citywide Offices (BCOs) and other staff working on continuous school improvement at the BCOs

     

    KEY RELATIONSHIPS: Executive Superintendent, Executive Director, Borough/Citywide Offices (BCO) and their teams, Superintendents and Superintendent team members, Directors of Continuous Improvement, Office of the First Deputy Chancellor.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manage and supervise the BCO Academic Response Team Specialists (ART) as they work with schools providing targeted and rapid school improvement strategies, practices, and leveraging their content area expertise.
    • Coordinate and project manage with other BCO staff working on continuous schools improvement cohesive strategies for guiding and providing supports to schools as they work with at-risk students.
    • Design and supervise the implementation of BCO continuous improvement plans to support schools in improving student achievement and in aligning school improvement efforts to the work of the Central leadership and bringing coherence to citywide initiatives.
    • Serve as a liaison with central- and field-based staff working on continuous schools improvement in designing and implementing data management strategies and tools to support schools as they use data to identify needs and strategically allocate resources within the Borough/Citywide Offices to support schools.
    • Work collaboratively with Borough/Citywide Office Directors, Central office teams, and Borough/Citywide Office teams to ensure that focused, coherent school improvement support and information is constructed and provided to schools.
    • Leverage school-level data to support schools’ most immediate needs.
    • Lead the provision of intensive, hands-on coaching of principals, school leadership, teacher leaders, and classroom teachers to directly address Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP) goals.
    • Manage the development of action plans aligned to schools’ root cause analysis; provide immediate support and attention.
    • Oversee the in-school support activities aimed at building capacity among school staff around school improvement and providing guidance and technical assistance to the BCO Academic Response Team Specialists and other staff working on continuous schools improvement at the BCOs.
    • Lead the development of support programs for school-based staff to implement Academic Intervention programs after school and on Saturdays.
    • Develop professional activities to track evidence of practice, effectiveness, and impact.
    • Supervise the study and impact of continuous improvement cycles to disseminate best practices in this areas throughout the BCO and the rest of the city.
    • Ensure an integrated approach to school improvement efforts across content areas, coordinating closely with other BCO directors.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

     

    MINIMUM

     

    Must currently possess or will possess by date of hire, New York State certification as a school district administrator (SDA) or school district leader (SDL).  PLEASE NOTE: WE DO NOT ACCEPT INTERNSHIP CERTIFICATES.

    • A valid New York State certificate in one of the following: Special Education, ELL, Math (k-12), ELA (K-12), Guidance/Student Support Services.

    SALARY: $125,256+
