    CIVIL ENGINEERING INTERNS – DIVISION OF TRANSPORTATION

    POSITION: CIVIL ENGINEERING INTERNS

    LOCATION: LIBERTYVILLE

    SALARY: $15.00 - $18.63 PER HOUR

    HOURS: MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, 6:30 AM TO 3:00 PM, OVERTIME AS NEEDED.

    TIMEFRAME: MAY 17, 2021 – AUGUST 7, 2021

     

     

    Required Skills

    Becoming an intern with the Lake County Division of Transportation will allow you to perform work of routine difficulty in basic para-professional engineering assignments or beginning level engineering work performed in a training capacity. Other assignments may include: surveying and operating survey equipment, performing basic construction inspections, measurement of work quantities and investigations, conducting field and laboratory tests on construction materials; collecting traffic data for traffic studies, and preparing working drawings from rough drafts or notes. Your day will consist of working directly with higher level technicians or professional engineers. You will have endless opportunities to impact and make a difference within Lake County. Being able to build working relationships with employees, 30 countywide departments and the public, is sure to keep you interested and continuously learning. 

     

    Required Experience

    To be successful in this role you should be pursuing a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or other closely related field. You must possess a valid driver’s license. The individual must have the ability and willingness to learn engineering tasks and procedures, the ability to use engineering equipment, instruments, and testing devices, including computers and software, the ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions, the ability to effectively problem solve, and the ability to work both individually and in a team atmosphere. You must be willing to work outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions; perform moderate lifting on a frequent basis; and be able to drive a County passenger vehicle.
