    THIS TITLE IS IN A CIVIL SERVICE COMPETITIVE CLASS THAT IS SUBJECT TO EXAMINATION.  POSITION IS ONLY OPEN TO APPLICANTS WHO ARE PERMANENT AS ADMINISTRATIVE EDUCATION OFFICER, OR PERMANENT IN AN EQUIVALENT TITLE THAT IS ELIGIBLE FOR 6.1.9 TO ADMINISTRATIVE EDUCATION OFFICER.

    POSITION SUMMARY: The Support Services Liaison is a critical member of a leadership team serving all schools in a DOE Borough Office (DOE BO) The Liaison will serve in a confidential capacity, with significant discretion and decision-making authority. This position will report to the Executive Director of Borough Support of their assigned DOE BO, and will ensure the adequate provision of coordinated support services to the schools served by the DOE BO, as needed.

     

    The Support Services Liaison will work closely with schools and across DOE BOs to drive policy decision-making regarding training and support services and engender high levels of customer satisfaction with the services and support provided by the DOE BOs. Performs related work.

     

    REPORTS TO:  Executive Director of Borough Support

     

    DIRECT REPORTS: N/A

     

    KEY RELATIONSHIPS: The Support Services Liaison will work closely with the Executive Director of Borough Support, the five DOE BO Directors, and the Director of Operational Support, as well as with principals and school staff.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Provides specialized support to all schools on Teaching and Learning, Human Resources and Finance, Special Education, Division of Multilingual Learners, Student Services, and Operations.
    • Coordinates all team staff training with Central offices in each of the specialized areas, as needed or required.
    • Ensures the integration of services throughout the DOE BO, with a focus on capacity-building, utilizing the Framework for Great Schools.
    • Works together with other Support Services Liaisons to ensure that best practices are utilized throughout the teams and consistently across all DOE BOs.
    • Using a ''train the trainer'' model, acts to identify and work with key team members as primary conveyors of essential expertise in all areas of support provided by the DOE BO.
    • Identifies the complex and systemic needs of school principals within the DOE BO.
    • Assists in designing and coordinating trainings and professional development sessions.
    • Provides guidance, counsel, and training to principals and school staff on key regulations, service delivery protocols, and administrative best practices.
    • Represents the Executive Director of Borough Support and DOE BO Directors at key meetings. Provides policy-level guidance to senior staff regarding training and DOE BO support services.
    • Provides high-quality professional development that builds technical expertise and reinforces customer service best practices.
    • Works with staff and colleagues to ensure an effective, capacity-building, integrated approach to principal support across all areas.

     

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

     

    MINIMUM

     

    1. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, educational psychology, educational leadership, public administration, public policy, social work, or a closely related field, and two years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible professional experience in education administration, in such areas as: portfolio planning, educational grants/funding, student enrollment, assessment and accountability, youth development, special education, early childhood, program evaluation, policy research, college and career readiness, health and wellness, immunization, diagnostic and treatment services for parents and children, out of school programs, career and occupational education, curriculum development, evaluation and testing, educational planning, and educational statistics, or a related field, at least 18 months of this experience must have been in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity in education administration; or
    2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of satisfactory, fulltime progressively responsible professional experience, in one or more of the areas as described in “1” above, at least 18 months of which must have been in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity; or
    3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory, full time professional experience, in one or more of the areas as described in “1” above, at least 18 months of which must have been in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity; or
    4. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1”, “2”, or “3” above. Undergraduate education above the high school level may be substituted for professional experience, in the areas described in “1” above, at the rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university for each year of experience, up to a maximum of 4 years. Graduate education in areas other than those mentioned above, may be substituted for the professional experience, at the rate of 15 graduate semester credits from an accredited college or university, for 6 months of experience, up to a maximum of 1 year of professional experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma or its educational equivalent and 18 months of experience in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity in education administration as described above.

     

    PREFERRED

     

    • A master's degree from an accredited university in operations management, public administration, education administration, business administration, or a related field.
    • Experience in creating and delivering trainings.
    • Experience in supporting the delivery of a variety of specialized services to schools in the areas of operations, business, youth development, English language learners and/or special education, to enable student achievement.
    • Familiarity with administrative and support functions at the NYC Department of Education.
    • Experience in building service-oriented relationships and providing successful consultative support.
    • Internal candidates preferred.

     

    SALARY: $85,872+

    (Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not make less than their current salary.)
