POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Director for Student Services and Community Partnerships is responsible for the management and coordination of professional development and supports in the area of student services and youth development provided to staff within Executive Superintendents’ offices and schools. The Senior Director will work closely with senior leadership staff from the Division of School Climate and Wellness and staff at the Executive Superintendents’ offices to create and implement professional development opportunities for school-based counselors, social workers, and teachers in the area of Student Services. This professional development will aim at supporting staff on how to help students develop the social and emotional skills they need to be resilient, manage feelings and friendships, and solve problems, as well as maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment. The Senior Director is a key coordinator of supports and strategic planning for the Office of the First Deputy Chancellor. Performs related work.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS: The Senior Director for Student Services and Community Partnerships works collaboratively with the Division of School Climate and Wellness, specifically the Office of Safety and Youth Development (OSYD) and Office of Community Schools (OCS), Division of Community Empowerment, Partnerships, and Communications, and staff at the Executive Superintendents’ offices.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Works collaboratively with team leads within the Office of the First Deputy Chancellor (OFDC) to coordinate cross-functional supports and opportunities for the directors of student services at the Executive Superintendents’ offices and their teams. • Partners with Central divisions and teams at the Executive and Superintendents’ offices to develop a year-long professional development agenda and other initiatives that are aligned to the instructional priorities of each Executive Superintendent’s office. • Works collaboratively with the different units at OSYD in designing, implementing, and facilitating professional development programs for staff working at the Support Executive Superintendents’ offices in the areas of student services, including school climate, guidance, college and career readiness, attendance, and health. • Works collaboratively with other Central offices in planning, providing and facilitating professional development for school-based guidance counselors, social workers, and teachers on how to help students develop their social and emotional skills. • Coordinates the identification of best practices in the areas of student Service to share them across DOE schools, and frequently engage in cycles of inquiry in this area. • Builds the capacity of student services teams at the Executive Superintendents’ offices to leverage assessment and other data related to incidents, 911 calls, suspensions, school climate and culture, attendance, and health to target supports and resources for schools. • Advises OFDC leadership; provides recommendations on how to increase system-wide capacity to support teaching and learning. • Manages communication and coordinate supports from the OFDC to schools and field-based offices in the areas of student services. • Coordinates and provides supports to Directors of Student Services and their team members, including the Student Services Manager, Attendance Supervisors, K-12 Guidance Services and Support specialists, School Climate Managers, and Health Directors. • Leads OFDC’s work as it collaborates with the Division of Community Empowerment, Partnerships, and Communications to ensure that Executive Superintendents’ office staff engage and empower communities and partners in promoting and sustaining quality resources and interactions to support students’ academic and non-academic skills. • Supports Executive Superintendents’ office staff in ensuring that schools are providing appropriate guidance and supports to school communities related to Respect for All (RFA), school climate improvement, student engagement, and issues associated with bullying and cyberbullying. • Works in partnership with OSYD to ensure that Executive Superintendents’ field staff are providing guidance and support to schools to guarantee that students in temporary housing are provided all of the provisions of the McKinney-Vento Act. • In collaboration with OSYD, designs professional development programs for Executive Superintendents’ field staff to provide support to schools in the areas of guidance and postsecondary readiness/planning.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM
Must currently possess a New York State Certification as a School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL). Please note: We do not accept internship certificates.
PREFERRED
• Knowledge of Chancellor’s Regulations; New York State Education Department regulations; City, State and Federal rules and regulations; and Regent’s mandates. • Five (5) years satisfactory experience related to providing school supports and creating professional development programs. • Strong teamwork and consensus building skills, and professionalism. • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills. • Ability to 'set up the problem' and, manage projects against tight timelines. Enterprising and resourceful; organized and results-oriented. • Strong interest or experience in educational field and/or public policy issues a plus. • Cross-functional knowledge of issues, policies, and programs related to school supports. • Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with education and non-education personnel, internal and external to the DOE. • Ability to liaise between internal offices and departments across the DOE.
