  • Responsibilities

    Performs functions to direct and control materials management for the company. Manages activities of those engaged in planning, purchasing, storage and inventory control of raw or finished products.

    • Manages and coordinates the work activities of purchasing, production planning, and inventory control.
    • Manages the negotiation and implementation of contracts in line with plant and corporate cost improvement goals and corporate strategies for supplier management. Directly engages in the more sensitive negotiations for critical and high value items.
    • Develops plans to obtain and control the proper level of inventory within budgeted, projected, sales forecasts, and historical/planned guidelines to meet customer delivery requirements at the most favorable cost to the company.
    • Manages planning functions to maintain accurate production schedules and promise dates in line with production goals, customer service communication goals, and operations capacity.
    • Works closely and effectively with Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sales/Marketing to assure that material and services are provided in a timely, orderly, and cost effective manner.
    • Communicates proactively with Operations on materials issues that may impact the Plant’s ability to meet shipping schedules. Communicates with suppliers to resolve issues, and closes the communications loop via JDE and other channels.
    • Establishes proper stock levels to meet desired customer service needs and company policies.
    • Manages, in coordination with Operations, all transactions related to materials availability and open order accuracy.
    • Provides adequate and accurate accounting of all inventory items for which the Materials Department is responsible.
    • Bears full responsibility for fiscal assets and inventory trusted into custody and under supervision and control; takes prompt corrective actions concerning inventory practices and records, including taking inventory of stored material; and enforces compliance with policies and procedures regarding inventory, equipment and personnel.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    • B.S. degree in Business Administration or related field.
    • Five or more years relevant experience in inventory, procurement, and production planning.
    • APICS certification preferred.
    • Ability to direct and supervise employees.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with various employee groups.
