    POSITION SUMMARY: The Translation and Interpretation (T&I) Unit of the Department of Education (DOE) is hiring a Translation Project Coordinator to coordinate and oversee the translation of a variety of documents into foreign languages for dissemination to Limited-English-Proficient (LEP) parents and communities. Performs related work.

     

    REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Translation Services

     

    DIRECT REPORTS: N/A

     

    KEY RELATIONSHIPS: Act as the main liaison between DOE offices/schools and T&I Unit staff and external language service providers.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Coordinate and manage written translation requests from DOE offices and schools.
    • Identify, manage, and schedule translator resources.
    • Review completed translations.
    • Log requests into database, process quality control measures, and archive completed projects.
    • Coordinate typesetting phase of translation projects.
    • Research policy, resources, and methods for increasing efficiency of tasks and services within the Unit.
    • Process over-the-phone interpreting requests.
    • Develop and maintain productive workflows with DOE client offices.

     

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

     

    MINIMUM

     

    1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
    2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.

     

    PREFERRED

     

    • Familiarity with the New York City public school system.
    • Ability to function and meet aggressive deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Experience working on project management in the translation field.
    • Strong logistical and long-term planning experience.
    • Demonstrated success in customer service, or other problem-solving experience.
    • Excellent communication, writing, interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
    • Strong Microsoft Office skills in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
    • Knowledge of translation memory software.
    • Internal candidates preferred.

     

    SALARY: $35,592+
