    POSITION SUMMARY: Assistive Technology Supervisor will oversee Occupational/Physical therapists currently assigned to the Center for Assistive Technology Team (CAT Team) and related work. AT Supervisor will support work flows related to the provision of providing Assistive Technology Evaluations/Trials/Trainings/Implementation to students within the NYC Department of Education conducted by Occupational and Physical Therapists. This includes providing clinical support for the scheduling process of AT Assessments/Trainings/Trials/Implementation organizing the daily operations of the CAT team; provide support related to equipment assignment/preparation; provide AT staff development and/or conduct assistive technology assessments (as needed) for students in various schools in D1-D32 as well as non-public/charter schools: Committees on Special Education (CSE/CPSE) throughout all boroughs as needed. Performs related work.

     

    REPORTS TO: Director of Center for Assistive Technology

     

    DIRECT REPORTS: Occupational and Physical Therapists on the Center for Assistive Technology Team (CAT Team)

     

    KEY RELATIONSHIPS: Works closely with working groups and special projects within the Office of Related Services (ORS) OT/PT/SP Managers and Supervisors. Establishes and maintains a cooperative working relationship with the Borough Offices (BO), District 75 (D75), Division of Specialized Instruction and Student Support (DSISS), CUNY AT Interns, CAT Team In-Office Support Staff, Committees on Special Education (CSE), Committees on Preschool Special Education (CPSE), school principals and other school administrators in the coordination of Assistive Technology related Evaluations/Trials/Trainings/Implementation. Provides clinical, administrative support and supervision for the Center for Assistive Technology (CAT Team) Evaluators.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Oversee, manage and evaluate the performance of Occupational/Physical therapists currently on the CAT Team with the delivery of services related to Assistive Technology Evaluations/Trials/Trainings/Implementation
    • Provide clinical, administrative support and supervision to the CAT team members providing Assistive Technology Evaluations/Trials/Trainings/Implementation
    • Conduct assistive technology evaluations for complex cases in collaboration with another AT Evaluator, as needed.
    • Provide clinical support to scheduling operations team and administrative support staff
    • Utilize current programs such as SESIS, calendar and inventory program to assist with providing support to the daily operations of the CAT Team
    • Organize and implement ongoing staff development for the CAT Team members
    • Participates in multidisciplinary conferences, parent meetings, IEP meetings and Impartial Hearings as necessary
    • Establishes and maintains a cooperative working relationship with BO/CSE/CPSE staff, principals, other school administrators and contract agencies in the coordination of Assistive Technology related Evaluations/Trials/Trainings and/or Implementation
    • Reviews outside AT Evaluation reports and provide consultative guidance and support to IEP teams (including school based, BO, CSE and CPSE)
    • Provide training on the indicators for Assistive Technology and the Referral Process to Department of Education staff Individualized Education Program (IEP) Teams (including school based, BO, CSE and CPSE)
    • Provide technical, clinical and consultative guidance on assistive technology, computers, software/applications and peripherals to support student access to Assistive Technology as needed to CAT Team, school staff, IEP Team, Impartial Hearing Implementation Unit and Office of Special Education
    • Facilitate and support the procurement process of recommended devices by working with school, Borough Office/CSE
    • Provide clinical support to the CUNY AT Technicians and interns during equipment preparation and assignment
    • Maintain required records and reports to document assistive technology, assessments, trainings and communications with staff/student/family throughout the school year as needed
    • Conduct assistive technology assessments (as needed) for students in various schools in D1-D32 as well as non-public/charter schools: Committees on Special Education (CSE/CPSE) throughout the City.

     

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

     

    MINIMUM

     

    • New York State Licensed Occupational or Physical Therapist, and three years of full-time experience administering occupational or physical therapy under professional supervision, one year of which must have been in an educational setting; and
    • Experience on an Assistive Technology Team for four or more years.

     

    PREFERRED

     

    • Experience on the Center for Assistive Technology Team.
    • Knowledge and/or interest in assistive technology, adaptive equipment and augmentative alternative communication.
    • Competency to provide technical assistance and consultation to BO/CSE/CPSE staff, schools, staff and parents on assistive technology implementation including assistive technology equipment, computers, programs, software, access methods and peripherals.
    • Ability to liaison with various agencies/departments in order to obtain, organize and disseminate information on assistive technology.
    • Capacity to organize and manage office operations on a daily basis.
    • Satisfactory rating.
    • Exceptional communication skills and resourcefulness.
    • Working knowledge of MS Office Suites; Google Drive; Scheduling Programs; Asset Management Programs.
    • Internal applicants preferred.

     

    SALARY: $84,810+

    (Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not make less than their current salary.)

    QUALIFICAITONS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • At least 3 years of managed care experience with an emphasis on product management
    • Experience in Medicare required; experience in Medicare Advantage strongly preferred
    • Proven ability to work with cross functional teams
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated ability to interpret government regulations
    • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
    • Excellent organization skills with a demonstrated ability to set priorities and follow-through
    • Proven ability in utilizing Windows PC software applications
