    Overview:

    The Grant Writer is a key member of the development team responsible for assisting the development department in raising funds for Newhouse. They will actively research, identify, and write proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects, in order to successfully secure new and renewal funding from government, foundations and corporations.

    Supervisory Relationship:

    Reports directly to the Grants Manager

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    In collaboration with the Grants Manager and the Development Team:

    1. Prepare, submit and manage grant renewals and new corporate and foundation proposals as assigned.
    2. Research, develop, and submit federal, state and local government funding appeals.
    3. Conduct extensive research for new funding opportunities with a variety of dollar values, from small to large.
    4. Participate in monthly prospecting and accountability team meetings.
    5. Prepare and submit quarterly, semi-annually and/or annual grant reports as required by funders.
    6. Prepare and manage tracking system to effectively identify, track, and report annual grant opportunities and submissions.
    7. Work with development team to identify and set annual grant fundraising goals as outlined by annual and campaign budgets.
    8. Assist in developing and implementing annual and long-range fund development plans for the agency, ensuring that the agency’s mission is reflected throughout all efforts.
    9. Other duties as assigned.

    Skills and Knowledge Required:

    1. Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in social service, communication, journalism, business, advertising/public relations or related field and highly effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
    2. At least two year’s of experience in fundraising, with expertise in writing grant proposals to a variety of funding sources with proven record of success
    3. Preference for those with knowledge of community resources and current fundraising trends.
    4. Ability to work solo and as part of a team while exercising tact and multi-tasking skills to ensure all deadlines are met.
    5. Must pass background check, drug screenings and be able to provide own transportation.
    6. Competent strong computer skills, including database knowledge (Raiser’s Edge) preferred.
