    Position Summary

    Nexus believes that individual healing and restoration is fundamental to transforming oppressive systems. The need to center rest in racial justice work is a realization that has been evolving in our communities and within our organization over the course of nearly 20 years advancing our mission of “building more engaged and powerful communities of color.”

    Nexus is seeking a Director of the ROOT Fund (Reclaiming Our Own Time), an opportunity for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) leaders to embrace rest and restoration as a fundamental piece of all work toward justice. The ROOT Fund will provide resources and support for BIPOC racial justice leaders to claim a period of intentional rest and reflection, while creating opportunities for all community members to reimagine their work and themselves in the context of collective wellbeing, restoration and healing.

    The Director of the ROOT Fund will work closely with Nexus leadership, staff and community partners to strategize, build and carry out the overall development of this initiative and will be supervised by the Vice President of Programs and Strategy.

    The primary responsibilities for this role are as follows:

    Leadership & Team Management (30%)

    Drive the day-to-day strategy, direction, and organization of program staff and programmatic activities

    Collaborate with Human Resources and Organization Culture (HROC) to support recruitment, hiring and onboarding for key staff positions

    Provide support, supervision, and growth opportunities for staff to ensure overall capacity needs are met

    Establish clear and effective lines of communication amongst restoration team

    Foster alignment between restoration team and the broader Nexus vision, mission, values, and practices

    Strategically position Nexus by participating in and creating opportunities to share lessons, opportunities and stories via presentations, conferences, convenings, etc

    Identify, organize, and potentially deliver, essential training to the team, partners and stakeholders

    Development & Implementation (30%)

    Oversee the development and implementation of movement initiatives including the community Reimagining Rest series, cohort application and selection process, bi-yearly restoration retreats and other community ecosystem engagements as needed

    Plan and facilitate advisory committee meetings to help shape work plan, cohort selection criteria, ecosystem, resource and strategic development of the movement

    Develop and manage an adaptive work plan that incorporates developmental learnings to ensure continuous improvement of programmatic offerings and timely execution of movement initiatives

    Develop an outreach and communications plan to raise awareness of movement offerings (reimagine series, restoration funding, and other community ecosystem engagements, etc.)

    Oversee and provide input on evaluation activities with relevant staff and consultants to ensure high participant response, execution, and progress of developmental design

    Supervise staff, consultants, and facilitation partners to implement movement initiatives and work plan goals, adjusting when necessary

    Collaboration & Network Weaving (30%)

    Identify and recruit ecosystem partners/organizations engaged in or supporting restoration, healing and wellness for BIPOC communities

    Oversee the recruitment of advisory committee members to support cohort selection, partnership, and ecosystem development

    Build meaningful relationships with ecosystem partners, project collaborators, advisory committee members, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of movement initiatives

    Identify, cultivate and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national stakeholders, including funders, community members, movement practitioners, and other relevant audiences

    Administration (10%)

    With the CFO and appropriate staff, co-create and monitor annual budget

    Oversee the distribution of grant awards to individuals

    Draft and manage agreements (contracts, MOU, etc.) and invoices for consultants, contractors, ecosystem partners and other vendors, etc.

    Support fundraising efforts and attend meetings with current funders and potential partners

    Oversee the preparation of grant reports to share evaluative and experiential learnings with funders and collaborators

    Desired Qualifications

    8+ years of experience leading initiatives in nonprofits, cooperatives, and public sector environments

    Has connection to the healing justice movement and/or understands the need for extended rest among BIPOC individuals/communities

    Deep commitment to advancing racial and economic justice through the framework of authorship, leadership and ownership.

    Engaged or familiar with individuals, organizations, and collaborative efforts supporting restoration, healing and wellness practices for BIPOC communities

    Strategic, cross-functional thinker with a strong desire to move towards implementation and action

    An individual who is able to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex, dynamic environment with multiple priorities

    Experience creating high-quality budgets and financial projections

    Strong supervisory and leadership skills, and an ability to work well with various levels of internal management and staff

    Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across programs, across the organization and with external partners

    Experience leading a variety of initiatives from ideation, development, and implementation, including innovative and non-traditional strategies or approaches

    A track record of effectively leading a program or organization to the next stage of growth

    Unwavering commitment to quality programs and excellence in organizational and project management with the ability to achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget

    Exceptional listening, coaching and relationship management skills, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills

    ·A commitment to self-care and to the health and wellness of their team

    Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with different audiences using a wide range of media

    Ability to self-motivate and self-direct; organize their own work by setting priorities

    Solid judgment, flexible, proactive, resourceful and curious. Ability to see possibility and ask hard questions with respect and discretion

    Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office 365, GDrive, Zoom, and other meeting technology

    Naturally curious, investigative, and motivated to learn new information
