    PORTER/PARTS ASSISTANT

     

    SUMMARY

    Prepares vehicles for delivery after all paint and body work has been completed.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING. OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED.

    Washes vehicle exterior, cleans interior and exterior windows, and wipes down doorjambs.

    Vacuums interior of vehicles to remove loose dirt and debris.

    Cleans upholstery, rugs, and other surfaces, using appropriate cleaning agents, applicators, and cleaning devices.

    Applies special-purpose cleaners to remove foreign materials which normal cleaning procedures do not remove, utilizing experience and judgment and following product manufacturer's recommendations.

    Inspects vehicles for noticeable defects, such as dents, scratches, torn upholstery, and poor mechanical operation.

    Restores appearance of engine area, rugs and upholstery, and painted surfaces.

    Uses color sanding processes and rubbing to ensure the optimum finish.

    Uses proper eye, hand, and body protection when using products that require protection.

    Fills vehicle with fuel.

    Maintains shop in clean and presentable condition at all times.

    Parks cars as directed by Body Shop manager.

    Orders shop supplies as necessary.

    Keeps work area neat and clean.

    Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.

    Reports any safety issues immediately to management.

    Empty’s garbage into designated areas if needed.

    Maintains tools and keeps equipment clean and in a proper state of repair.

    Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer.

    Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management.

    Cooperates and assists other personnel in the repair and prepping of vehicles. Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.

    Reports to work with a positive attitude, on time and ready to work.

    Maintains high customer satisfaction standards.

    PARTS

    Assures proper control of the parts inventory and related administrative functions.

    Places daily parts orders.

    Stocks and posts incoming orders.

    Assists parts manager in processing weekly stock orders.

    Ensures that credits are received for returns.

    Returns parts as needed and removes from inventory after credit is received.

    Returns cores in a timely manner and follows up for receipt of credit.

    Matches purchase orders and invoices, approves and forwards to accounting office.

    Files company copies of parts counter invoices.

    Keeps parts are clean and uncluttered.

    Reports to work with a positive attitude, on time and ready to work.

    Transport customer and company vehicles as directed in a safe and appropriate manner while obeying all traffic laws.

     

    MARGINAL DUTIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING. Other duties may be assigned.

    Familiar with the use of a buffer for outside finish and solvents/chemicals needed to clean soiled spots on vehicle.

    Problem solving ability.

    Requires a high school diploma with 2-4 years’ experience in this field.

    Able to drive a manual transmission with ease.

    Have to maintain a clean and current driving license.

     

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
