  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    As a Journeyman Lineman you will be responsible for line construction, installation, maintenance and to assure continuity of service for the rural electric distribution.

    Essential Functions

    • Follow industry accepted best practices for installation and maintenance of underground and overhead power lines.
    • Acts as a Member Service Representative for the Cooperative.
    • Install single and three phase overhead and underground transformers and other distribution equipment.
    • Install distribution transformers, new service security lights, regulators, capacitors, and protective line equipment.
    • Operation of fuses, switches, and sectionalizing equipment in distribution systems.
    • Provide assistance during substation maintenance and switching.
    • Support power restoration duties after an outage.
    • Complete service orders required for the position.
    • Consistent availability for on-call duties as requested.
    • Properly maintain and show care for essential job-related equipment.

    OTHER FUNCTIONS

    • Locate and mark underground cable routes as requested.
    • Right-of-way maintenance to ensure clear power line path.
    • Works with other departments to provide assistance as needed.
    • Certified and regularly trained in first aid, CPR certification.
    • Attend safety meeting, job training and such specialized training as may be assigned.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide guidance for Groundman and Apprentice Lineman.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an equivalent of the following education and/or experience.

    • High School diploma or GED is required.
    • Journeyman Lineman’s certification is required.
    • 4 years of experience with rural electric distribution utility preferred.
    • Valid Class A Indiana CDL driver’s license required.
    • Read and understand terms and conditions of service, cooperative by-laws rate classifications, National Electric Safety Code (NESC), National Electric Code (NEC), RUS drawing and specifications, safety rules and publications to stay up to date on requirements.
    • Successful completion of lineman apprenticeship program approved by U.S. Department of Labor.
    • Must live within 15 miles of Noble REMC office.
